SLUH Team Shootout (Top Teams)
Here is a look at some of the top teams on hand at the SLUH Team Shootout, which was held on Sunday.
Soldan: The Tigers looked very strong with its talented and experienced group. Class of 2019 twins James and Jesse Perry will be the Tigers’ starting backcourt for the fourth consecutive year. James is an excellent point guard while Jesse displayed his shooting from 3-point range. 6’6″ 2020 post Elijah Bishop can score in the the paint, plus knock down 3-pointers off the catch while 6’4″ 2019 forward is a rangy athlete who was very active. A welcome addition is 5’11” 2019 guard Ryan Torrey, a transfer from Cardinal Ritter who can shoot the 3-pointer.
Mehlville: The Panthers have a dynamic 2020 duo in 6’5″ guard Dylan Branson and 6’7″ forward Lamontay Daugherty. Branson is a bullish performer who powered his way around the basket on the drive and in the post while knocking down step-back jumpers. Daugherty is a smooth performer who can score from all three levels. 6’5″ 2021 forward Robert Dorsey, Jr. has a nice upside.
Cardinal Ritter: The Lions will be a factor in Class 3 with a team full of speed and quickness. 2019 point guard Malek Davis is an old-school combo guard who can facilitate and get buckets from the mid-range and 3-point land. 5’9″ 2019 guard Tarell brings a lot of speed and quickness in transition while 6’3″ 2021 forward Mario Fleming is a slashing youngster who can score around the basket. I also like the potential of 6’6″ 2020 forward Gary Clark.
Hazelwood East: The Spartans are full of good perimeter talent, which was on display in victories over CBC and St. Mary’s on Sunday. 6’2″ 2020 guard Jordan Gilmore is a knock down shooter from 3-point range and 5’10” 2021 guard can also knock down 3-pointers while having nice handles. 5’7″ 2020 guard Derick Foster has plenty of quicks and 6’0″ 2021 guard Terry Lowe is strong on the drive. Newcomer 6’4″ 2020 guard Isaac Spears can get it done from three levels.
Jennings: The Warriors lost a lot to graduation from a Final Four team, but there is good talent back, led by 6’3′ 2019 power guard Elijah Hicks, who can score in the paint and from the perimeter. 2021 point guard Trevon Love is a talented youngster with plenty of promise while 6’5″ 2019 forward Donzell Carter should be ready to step into a bigger role.
McCluer: After struggling for much of the 2018 season, the Comets came on strong late to make it to the district finals. They should be ready from Day 1 next season with 6’4″ 2019 guard Dareon Graham back. He was cash money from 3-point range on Sunday. Slender 6’2″ 2020 point guard Jeremiah Jackson is a smooth operator who can score. 2019 guard Richaun Purtty and 2020 guard Josh Donaldson are speedy and can pressure the ball.
Ladue: The Rams have nice class of 2020 players which should keep them very competitive for the next few seasons. Talented 6’0″ point guard Jaylen Boyd was excellent on Sunday and has improved his athleticism and 3-point shooting. 6’6″ forward Evan Schneider is a bruiser in the paint and 6’4″ wing Nate Garrett is a nice two-way performer with his length.
Waynesville: The Tigers got on a roll in its last game against Mehlville when they shot lights out from 3-point range in an impressive victory. 6’3″ 2019 forward Tajah Stewart is an athletic wing with a high motor at both ends while 6’5″ 2020 Jaden Smith is a lengthy forward who has shown positive strides. Aptly named 2019 guard Gunner Rees is a knock down shooter from long distance.
