Tyrell Terry Picks Stanford
DeLaSalle and D1 Minnesota point guard Tyrell Terry ended his recruitment on Sunday by committing to Stanford for his college future. Terry pushed himself into four star status this spring as a player but the five star academic performer has been a consistent 4.0. So Stanford gets one of the nation’s best, in both ways.
“I chose (Stanford) because it is (a) unique place where you can get a top of the line education along with top of the line competition basketball wise,” Terry explained. “I developed a very strong relationship with the coaching staff and it just felt like the perfect place for me.”
The Tyrell Terry offer list included Indiana, Minnesota, Baylor, Iowa, Xavier, Butler, Nebraska, St. Johns, and many others. Of all these programs, Stanford was near the top of the list in their efforts to center their recruitment on Tyrell and when you add in the Stanford education it was a no-brainer for Terry.
“What I liked about the staff was that they made it clear to me from the beginning that I was the guy they wanted and did all the right things as far as developing relationships with my parents and things like that which meant a lot to me,” Terry said. “I learned quickly that college basketball is a business and them telling me they needed a point guard in my class and that I was the only one they were coming after hard, had a very strong impression on me.”
The way Stanford plays was another key reason as to why Stanford was the perfect fit for Tyrell.
“Their offense involves a lot of ball screen action and fast tempo, which are things I feel like I do very well. I plan to continue to improve on these things at the collegiate level.”
