KAMO Shootout: Sunday Standouts
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Hosted by Shawnee Mission East, the annual KaMo Shootout has earned a reputation as one of the midwest’s premier summer events for high school teams.
This event tipped off on Friday and will wrap up on Sunday with championship brackets being played. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top performers on Saturday.
2-Spencer Bain, 5’11, G, 2020, Blue Valley West (Kan.)
Bain is a disciplined guard who can dazzle spectators and make smart plays. He likes to pass ahead and is at his best when a play extends the length of the court. Bain has put together a strong summer competing for MoKan Elite’s 16U squad, and showed this weekend he can lead a team as knock down outside shots as well.
30 — Noah Kurlbaum, 6’3, G, 2019, Shawnee Mission East (Kan.)
Kurlbaum is a do-it-all guard who does a little bit of everything at both ends of the floor. He has decent size and athleticism and is a willing rebounder who battles at the defensive end of the floor as well.
6 — Tevyn McKelvey, 6’0, PG, 2020, Gardner-Edgerton (Kan.)
A left handed guard who can handle the ball and play either guard, McKelvey put together a strong weekend, showing the ability to defend, push the ball in transition and finish tough chances in the paint. And, he also knocked down several 3-pointers as well.
30 — Zarian Navy, 6’3, G, 2020, Aquinas (Kan.)
Navy has good size and length for a lead guard and showed some good athleticism during Saturday’s action for Aquinas. He has a smooth offensive game, able to handle the ball under control and lets the action come to him. He showed good form and mechanics from the 3-point arc and has a good foundation to build on as a perimeter shooter.
23-Jordan White, G, 2019, Topeka Washburn Rural (Kan.)
White is a tough, physical guard who can play positions across the board. He has a strong presence in the paint and has a way of getting his hand on the ball. He is also a talented dribbler, someone who can bring players out of their comfort zone and burn them in open space. White also makes noise as a defensive rebounder.
