Friday’s Action: Rose City Showcase
The 16th edition of the Rose City Showcase opened up on Friday night and talent was on display to the fans and college coaches on hand.
The first official game was to be between the Northwest Panthers and the Wildcards, but the game was not played and the Panthers were granted a 15-0 win to advance to the semi-finals.
Here are the results of the games that were played:
Unsigned Hype 71, Washington Supreme 60: Unsigned Hype, a squad made up of a hodgepodge of players wearing old ICP NW Express uniforms, made a run in the second half to pull away for the victory. Aundree Polk (2017 Lakeridge/Dohn Prep) hit deep threes and scored on drives to score 27 points. Also scoring 27 points was Keylin Vance (2019 Jefferson) on a number of whirling drives to the basket with acrobatic finishes. Clark College signee Sethon Moore (2018 Cleveland) chipped in with 14 points.
For Washington Supreme, Kiwanis Thomas (2019 Tacoma Wilson) scored in a number of creative ways to lead the way with 17 points while Jalen Fayson (2019 Foster HS) added 10 points on a number of mid-range jumpers, while swatting a couple of shots on defense.
The Hoop Salem 59, Seattle Rotary Style 50: It’s important to note that this Seattle Rotary Style was not the team that recently qualified for the Peach Jam in the EYBL. Instead it was an assembled group of players that fought hard but wasn’t able to get past the similarly quickly-assembled Hoop Salem team. Bryce Sloan (2018 Lincoln HS) paced the squad with 26 points and indicated that a college decision is imminent this weekend.
Fellow unsigned senior Samaad Hector (2018 Skyview HS) fought hard for 20 points and provided athletic plays on both ends of the floor. The Hoop Salem played the entire way with only five players, but Jaden Nielsen-Skinner (2019 South Salem) was missing – but will be available to play on Saturday.
Rose City Rebels 101, Active PCH 47: Wins were hard to come by for the Rebels on the EYBL circuit, but you could have never seen that the way they blew past Active PCH. Midway through the first half they caught fire from three – specifically Josh Angle (2019 Lake Oswego) with five himself – and cruised through from there. Angle finished with 24 points while Alex Schumacher (2019 Skyview) shook off a scoreless first half and ended strong with 22 points of his own on 9-for-15 shooting including four threes.
Sataievior Ayilola (2020 Central Catholic) dominated inside with 17 points and 11 rebounds and fab frosh Ben Gregg (2021 Columbia Christian) showed a sweet stroke from the perimeter on his way to 17 points and nine rebounds. Tucker Pellicci (2020 Franklin) scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in a breakout performance. The team’s leading scorer in the EYBL, Aaron Deloney (2019 Grant) served as a playmaker in this game with a team-high six assists.
For Active PCH, Leyson Farmer (2018 Parkrose) lived up to his billing as a shooter by hitting four threes in scoring 14 points, while Davion Finney (2018 David Douglas) scored 11. Oreon Courtney (2019 West Linn) added 10.
In Saturday’s semi-finals, Northwest Panthers will take on Unsigned Hype at 5:45pm, whlie Hoop Salem will challenge the Rose City Rebels at 6:50pm. Both games will be played at Jefferson High School in Portland.
