Francisco’s Finest: Pangos AA Camp (Part 1)
Francisco’s Finest: Pangos AA Camp (Part 1)
NORWALK, CA— The 2018 Pangos All American Camp held at Cerritos College was a terrific way to jumpstart the summer evaluating season. In all the years of attending this event this may have been the most talented group—in terms of “bigs” and wing-types.
From Charles Bassey to Isaiah Mobley there was a plethora of gifted seniors to be—however, it was the underclassmen that stole show led by 2020s Evan Mobley, Cade Cunningham, and Anthony Edwards.
2019 MVP
Isaiah Mobley (Rancho Christian)
PF, 6-foot-8, 235 pounds
Joel’s Take: Yes, I realize Charles Bassey was in camp and he had some dominant moments. However, in terms of production from the opening tip on Friday night to Sunday in the Top 30 game, Mobley was the most productive senior-to-be. His combination of inside-out skills and up-and-under moves in the paint had defenders baffled.
2020 MVP
Evan Mobley (Rancho Christian)
PF, 6-foot-10, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: Out west the pundits knew how good Mobley was due to his lethal combination of length, athleticism, and budding skills. His quickness off the floor is mind boggling and his ability to finish with either hand is impressive. The ball skills are evident as well as his passing acumen. After this camp, I will be shocked if Mobley is not ranked NO. 1 in the national class of 2020.
2021 MVP
Adrian Griffin (White Plains, NY/Archbishop Stepinac)
SG, 6-foot-4, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the first things that caught my eye with Griffin was his poise. The even keel Griffin has a smooth shooting touch out to 22-feet and he has the frame and athleticism to finish over length and through contact. He handed out a few nifty passes as well to go along with his solid all-around game.
Most Intriguing
Dain Dainja (Minneapolis, MN/Parker Center)
2020, C, 6-foot-8, 230 pounds
Joel’s Take: While watching Dainja you would think he was a true banger in the paint due to his strong frame. However, this future stretch 5-man can handle the ball and knock in deep jump shots. Intriguing to say the least.
Eric Dixon (Abington, PA/Abington Senior)
2019, PF, 6-foot-7, 240 pounds
Joel’s Take: Dixon reminds me some of Zach Randolph (Memphis Grizzlies). The chiseled Dixon is a brute on the inside as he utilizes his superior strength, skill, and touch to bully defenders. He can also knock in the deep 3-point shot. He isn’t a great leaper and it will be intriguing to see how he produces at Villanova during the 2019 season.
Drake London (Moorpark)
2019, WF, 6-foot-6, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: Versatile is one of the traits that come immediately to mind when describing London. The skilled lefty plays with a hot motor and is tough to deal with in transition as he uses his strength, skill, and bounce to finish through contact. He has some point forward savvy to his game as well which demonstrates his IQ for the game.
