Tourney Preview: Rose City Showcase
The overall flavor of the tournament will be different this year with no national teams competing, but the 16th version of the Rose City Showcase in Portland figures to be as competitive as ever in the Super 17’s Elite Division. Eight teams from Oregon and Washington will battle it out to join the names of the Atlanta Celtics, Portland Legends, and others with the title of RCS Champions.
This year, the eight teams competing will be as follows: Northwest Panthers, Wildcards, Washington Supreme, Unsigned Hype, Seattle Rotary Style, Hoop Salem, Rose City Rebels, and Active PCH Leaders.
Unfortunately due to various reasons, the biggest being conflicts with June school basketball schedules, the rosters of all of those teams will be in flux. However, PrepHoops Oregon has been able to confirm the attendance of a few top players.
The Rose City Rebels, Oregon’s sole 17U representative in the EYBL, will have many of their top guns in attendance. Leading scorer Aaron Deloney (2019 Grant HS) will be there alongside his high school teammate, Ty Rankin (2019 Grant HS). Sharp-shooting Josh Angle (2019 Lake Oswego HS) and standout guard Alex Schumacher (2019 Skyview HS, WA) are also expected to play.
Hoop Salem, led by head coach James Johnson, will feature Portland State commit Jaden Nielsen-Skinner (2019 South Salem HS) but the rest of the roster will be different, featuring mainly unsigned 2018 players from the Portland area. Bryce Sloan (2018 Lincoln HS) is the biggest name among that group.
Active PCH should have most of their 17U roster at the event, which is a mixture of unsigned 2018 and 2019 players. Oreon Courtney (2019 West Linn HS) leads the contingent.
For the Washington teams, Seattle Rotary Style will not be bringing the team that recently qualified for the Peach Jam in the EYBL, but instead another group of players that has yet to be determined. This is similarly the case with the Northwest Panthers. Washington Supreme will not be bringing their main core that competed on the UnderArmor circuit, but a mixture of players from their other 17U and 16U squads.
The Rose City Showcase XVI will start play on Friday evening at 5:30 pm at the main gym of Lewis & Clark College.
