Pangos All-American Camp: Top Wings
Norwalk, Ca. — The Pangos All-American Camp is consistently one of the premier showcase events in the country, drawing high level players from all over the United States.
Pangos founder and camp organizer Dinos Trigonis put together a solid, invitation-only roster with a balanced positional mix of point guards, shooting guards, wings, forwards and centers for the three day event at Cerritos College.
Other than one of the parking ticket machines mysteriously breaking, the camp went off without a hitch and here’s a quick breakdown of the top wings on the weekend.
Jaime Jaquez, Camarillo (CA)
Jaquez, a top 30 game selection, has the ability to be successful in any basketball setting because he’s so versatile. The 6-foot-6 UCLA-commit can serve as a point-forward of sorts due to his high basketball IQ and ability to rebound the defensive glass, lead the break and make good decisions. Jaquez scores inside and out, setting up his strong drives and finishes in the paint with the threat of knocking down perimeter jumpers.
Jake Kyman, Santa Margarita (CA)
Kyman was another local product to make the top 30 game and that had a lot to do with his consistent shooting effort over the weekend. The 6-foot-7 UCLA-commit picked his spots perfectly, moved well without the ball, and mixed in a good amount of mid-range jumpers to go along with his smooth catch-and-shoot deep ball we’ve all been accustomed to. Kyman scored 11 points with three triples in a winning effort in the top 30 game and shot 50 percent from deep on the weekend.
Moorpark high school two-sport standout Drake London had a solid all-around weekend at the Pangos All-American Camp.Drake London, Moorpark (CA)
London’s rise in the basketball landscape is one of the more interesting storylines in SoCal hoops over the last year. The 6-foot-5 rising senior is a two-sport standout who holds high major offers in both football and basketball. London’s performance on the weekend left no doubt that if he does choose to play basketball over football, he’ll have no trouble hooping at the highest level. London is both a strong and explosive athlete as evidenced by his handful of beastly transition dunks. London continues to improve his perimeter shooting from both the mid-range and 3-point levels, as well.
Wendell Moore, Cox Mill (NC)
Moore certainly showed his ability to score at-will throughout the weekend. The chiseled 6-foot-5 Cox Mill High-product has the feel of a point guard in the body of a physical wing player and is nearly impossible to stop if he’s able to get a shoulder by a defender. Moore finished around the basket with power, but also drained a good amount of step-backs and 3-pointers off the bounce. One of the more intriguing aspects of Moore’s game is his passing ability when he chooses to do so.
Kahlil Whitney, Roselle Catholic (NJ)
Whitney is equal parts smooth and tough. His combination of size, length and athleticism to go along with his strong feel for the game helped him move freely on the floor and get to the spots he wanted to be. The 6-foot-6 rising senior has a long first step and good ball skills that allowed him to beat his defender off the bounce and get into the paint where he finish through or over contact.
Samuell Williamson, Rockwall (TX)
Williamson, a 6-foot-6 senior-to-be, was one of the camp leaders in field goal percentage, shooting 58.6 percent on 17 of 29 from the field. The Rockwall High-product has some throwback feel to his game, thriving as a mid-range jump shooter. Williamson understands how to play off the ball, setting up and curling off of pin-down screens and rising up from 15 to 17 feet with a high release point and soft touch.
