St. Charles Shootout (Top Teams)
Prep Hoops Missouri spent Saturday at the St. Charles Shootout at St. Charles High. Here is a look at some of the top teams at the Shootout.
St. Charles: The Pirates should have one of the better Class 4 teams in the area in 2019. They displayed their excellent inside-outside duo of 6’6″ 2019 forward Braden Wiggs and 6’0″ 2019 point guard Cameron Teson, an excellent bucket getter and passer. Joining the talented Teson in the backcourt was athletic 6’1″ 2020 guard David Roberts. 2019 forward Courtney Anderson and 2020 forward Dennis Whitt are a pair of athletic 6’2 kids who provide rebounding and high energy.
Francis Howell: The Vikings should be a contender in Class 5 after winning 25 games and a district title last season. Howell was missing key players Matt Schark and Matt Schulte on Saturday, but on hand was 5’6″ 2019 jitterbug point guard, emerging 6’8″ 2021 Sam Thompson and bullish 2019 guard Matthew Simmons. Several young players got a chance to get minutes. One who played well was 2021 guard Preston Fortner, who can shoot the 3-pointer.
Francis Howell Central: The Spartans won only eight games a year ago, but they have the firepower and experience to have a big turnaround season. They have a dynamic duo of 6’2″ 2019 guards Terron Robinson and Tyrek Coleman, who can both get buckets and make plays all over the court. Kaleb Anderson is a 2019 point guard who can make 3-pointers while 2021 guard Myles Estrada can rain down 3-pointers. He made seven in one game on Saturday.
St. Charlest West: The Warriors enjoyed a solid weekend and executed well as a team during the weekend. They are led by 6’3″ 2019 guard Trent Champagne, who can get buckets and set up his teammates. Returning 2019 guard Josh Anderson is a knock down shooter who can stretch the defense. Providing size inside is beefy 6’6″ 2021 forward John Wilson.
Fort Zumwalt West: The Jaguars are well balanced with an excellent backcourt plus some good size up front. The guards are excellent with 6’1″ 2019 scoring threat Kaileb Bryant and strong 5’10” 2020 D.J. Turner getting it done. Providing size up front is 6’5″ 2019 forward Les Robinson, 6’4″ 2019 forward Brendan Douglas and 6’5″ 2020 forward Kody Klingensmith.
Battle: The Spartans will have a young and talented squad with a lot of athleticism. They are led by 6’2″ 2020 guard Maricus Grant, who is a defensive beast. 6’3″ 2021 guard Cacho Gianquinto is a young scorer who can knock down 3-pointers. One player to watch is 6’4″ 2019 forward David Galantine, an excellent athlete who can get buckets. If he emerges into a prime time role, Battle has a good chance to keep its string of district championships going. I also like 6’5″ 2020 forward Abdi Ibriham, a thin jump shooter.
Troy: The Trojans have a strong inside presence in 6’6″ 2019 forward Jim King, a solid post player who will step out and shoot it. There is also a capable young backcourt in place in 2021 guard Brenden Deters and 6’1″ 2020 Braden Nett, who both played big minutes last season playing alongside their now-graduated older brothers.
