Recruiting Report: DeVonne Harris (2019)
Big Lake Power Forward DeVonne Harris is one of the better rebounders in Minnesota as he showed this weekend playing with Comets K. He’s also one of the state’s best football prospects.
This weekend DeVonne Harris only played with Comets K on Sunday. Why? He was triple jumping in the state tournament. He may at times miss basketball games in June with Comets K and Big Lake. Why? He’s one of the elite football prospects in Minnesota. If he wanted to he could play college hoops because he’s also a top 50-75 prospect in that sport too.
Big Lake didn’t quite have the year they were hoping to this winter but what they do have is talent returning. Harris led the team in rebounding at about nine a game playing with top 25-30 level prospect Logan Nagorski and DeVonne was the team’s third leading scorer. The Hornets have big plans for next year with DeVonne and Logan coming back, among others.
“We have four starters coming back and we are expected to do big things this year,” Harris said. “Next year to get better I want become a little more of an offensive (player).”
Harris is getting ready for his senior year of hoops by playing with Comets K, a team that hit the 20 win total for the season this weekend despite injuries to their guards.
“We have been doing great this season by winning some big games,” Harris said. ” Our goal is to win a couple more tourneys and have a better record than last year.”
Another thing Harris has on the agenda is a long June month of football camps. Several teams are interested while offers have come in from Wyoming and North Dakota thus far. Harris is being recruited as a defensive end who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds on football sites.
“A lot of schools have been in contact but the big ones so far are North Dakota State, North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and Montana State,” Harris said. “I got the Gopher camp coming up on June 10, UND camp on June 21, and NDSU camp on June 23.”
