Class of 2018: Commitment Catchup and Recruiting Updates
Members of the Class of 2018 are continuing to make decisions on their college futures.
Originally over Memorial Day weekend, Darius Guinn (2018 Grant HS) was going to play one more tournament with the Rose City Rebels in the EYBL. Instead, he stayed home and signed with Highline College in Washington.
“They drove down to visit with me and basically told me they had everything I was looking for,” Guinn said. “They said if you come here and do what you’ll do, we’ll get you to (Division I). I had other offers from some national JUCOs but I didn’t have a good feel for them. And national JUCOs are kind of out in the middle of nowhere. (Highline) is close to Seattle and it’s close to home.”
Guinn is an academic qualifier, so he will have the ability to move on after only one year at Highline.
Another senior who recently made a decision is Teron Bradford (2018 Oregon City HS). According to Oregon City head coach Aaron Newkirk, Bradford signed with Southern Oregon, choosing the Raiders over Western Oregon, OIT, and Carroll College among others. He has ties to the school as two older sisters have played college basketball there as well.
Also making a decision is Class of 2017 big man Spencer Hoffman. The Churchill graduate (who attended prep school in Missouri) recently announced on twitter that he had committed to Colorado Christian. He had previously told PrepHoops Oregon that he was also considering Central Washington.
A quick update on some unsigned Class of 2018 standouts:
– Bryce Sloan (2018 Lincoln HS) informed PrepHoops Oregon that he is getting close to a decision. He holds offers from Marist as well as several GNAC schools including Western Oregon.
– Kelton Samore (2018 Grant HS) informed PrepHoops Oregon that he may be close to a decision as well. He has previously made official visits to Colgate and future Division I program UC San Diego.
– Bostyn Holt (2018 Roosevelt HS) told PrepHoops Oregon at The Hoop Memorial Day Classic that he recently made an official visit to Central Washington and enjoyed his time there, but is still keeping his options open. He suited up for Nike Team Northwest Team Swoosh at the tournament and played well.
– Alexis Angeles (2018 Tualatin HS) is also looking over his options. An official visit to St. Martin’s is in the near future for the 6A First Team All-State honoree.
