Show-Me Showdown (Class of 2020 Forwards)
Here is a look at the top Class of 2020 forwards from last weekend’s Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown:
Blake Vaughn 6’4″ T.E.M. Select: A solid young power forward from Rockwood Summit who helped lead his team to the semifinals of the 16U tournament. He scored in the final seconds to send his team into the semifinals. He has a big body and a solid set of handles, which makes him difficult to stop when he is going to the basket. He is tough and he plays in an aggressive manner on both ends of the court as a scorer and rebounder.
Dalton Gayman 6’5″ KC Pacers: A strong combo forward from Nevada who excels in what I like to call the “bumper car” style of basketball. He loves to seek contact, whether he’s driving to the basket or looking for people to box out for rebounds. He is a solid ball handler who did a nice job making plays in the open court. He also did a nice job of raising his level of play in close games.
Tysen Brennan 6’4″ Marcus Denmon Elite: An excellent Stretch 4 from Lee’s Summit West who can really knock down 3-pointers off the catch. He is a skilled perimeter player who plays mostly inside on a team full of talented guards. He has adapted well as he showcased his ability to score inside and rebound at a very effective level.
Mack Anderson 6’5″ Dominators: It was my first time seeing this young post from SW Livingston and I was impressed with his overall play around the basket. He played 17U most of the weekend and more than held his own. He was a very effective scorer in the paint with his shooting touch, nice footwork and his excellent use of pump fakes around the basket.
Sam Englemeyer 6’8″ Willpower: Another young man who I got to see for the first time and he got better with each time I saw him during the tournament. He is more of a finesse big, but he displayed a very nice shooting touch from the paint and out to the 3-point line. With added strength, he could develop into an even better player because the skill level is there. Attends Rogersville.
Triston Turner 6’4″ KC Pacers: A versatile combo forward from Ft. Osage who plays a very good all-around game. He is a very unselfish player who passes the ball very well from the high post. He plays with a high motor on both ends of the court. I enjoy watching him run the court from end to end.
Sean Akers-Kennedy 6’6″ Arsenal Hoops Red: An improving young power forward from Lindbergh who was very effective in the two games I watched him. He did a good job of using the glass to finish around the basket and I liked the way he attack the boards.
