Recruiting Report: Josh Holmes (2020)
Class of 2020 Josh Holmes is a two guard from Jones College Prep. He flies a bit under the radar to casual fans going to a non-traditional basketball school, but this kid has game! He is a rangy wing that can shoot it off the catch when left open and mixes in scores in transition. Also like what he brings to the table as a defender in the backcourt. Low-major player.
Holmes spoke about where he has been focusing on improving during the spring with Young & Reckless.
“Definitely ball handling. I am getting more comfortable handling it and I think I should be good doing that this summer. Shooting early in the spring has been off some. I will keep working on that.”
How was his sophomore season at Jones?
“It was good overall. We didn’t reach our goals necessarily, but we have a lot of younger players so we should be way better. I am looking forward to being a leader. Build that leadership. I am a guy at my school that a lot of kids look up too.”
He spoke about what his biggest assets are as a player.
“I am a shooter that shoots the ball. I can do a little bit of everything. I am gritty. I am everywhere. I play defense. I try to be that player that if you put me on the court I will give you valuable minutes.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have been talking to a bunch of different schools. UW-Green Bay, Valparaiso, Yale, Florida Atlantic, and Brown. I have an offer from UIC.”
UIC has made him an early priority.
“I love the coaching staff. Every time I talk to them they tell me things that help me with my game. They want to see me do well even if I don’t go to their school.”
There are a pair of schools he would like to visit in the upcoming couple months.
“I will probably take visits this summer to Valparaiso and Brown.”
What does he like about Valpo?
“I know one of the coaches just left, but they have been continuing to talk to me. They watched me in the live period. They said me, Keshawn (Williams), and Reggie (Strong) are good.”
