Spring Spotlight: Jaylen Alexander Sheds Light On His Spring While Looking Ahead At Summer Plans
Prep Hoops Idaho keeps it’s Spring Spotlight series rolling as this time we catch up with 2021 stud Jaylen Alexander of Columbia High School. Alexander has been a riser in our rankings and currently sits atop our list of 2021 prospects.
Alexander talked to us about his Spring and also what he’s planning on doing basketball wise this Summer which is around the corner.
Last season for Columbia, Alexander in 20 games averaged 4.3 points (41.2 fg%) to go along with 3.1 rebounds. For the season overall, Columbia will certainly look to turn things around this upcoming year as they were last in 5A conference district 3 with a 2-15 record and an overall record of 5-17. However, with the blossoming Alexander, they should be able to do so as he is a player that will impact the game more and more as his game continues to develop.
Alexander touched on last season with us saying, “I think I played ok. I could have played a lot better looking back on it, the first half of the season I didn’t have much confidence and I struggled, the second half of the season my confidence got way better and I started to preform a lot better.”
Of course as a young player it is good to hear Alexander recognize the struggles that come with earning and holding onto playing time while being counted on to produce. By the sounds of it, Alexander now knows what he needs to do to be a solid contributor.
This Spring, Alexander has been after it, “I played for Idaho Force with coach Tony Bobbitt, it has been a fun Spring.” Bobbitt, a former College of Southern Idaho and professional player for the Idaho Stampede is a well known name in the Treasure Valley, and a good influence to Alexander as he has played at a very high level both in college (Cincinnati) and professionally. It’s always great to see former players such as Bobbitt work with prep level kids to share their knowledge and experiences, an advantage for Alexander and his teammates for sure.
In terms of his game, Alexander added, “I have been working on my three point shot to become a threat inside and outside.” With that added element, Alexander should be even more troublesome for opposing teams to defend.
Moving ahead, Alexander dished on his Summer plans as well, “This Summer I will be going to Utah with my Columbia team and I’m looking forward to the competition out there and to play with the best players in the Northwest,” Alexander said.
We are looking forward to watching Alexander grow his game even further as he adds to his already impressive skill set.
