Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown (Class of 2019 Wings)
Here is a look at the top Class of 2019 wings from last weekend’s Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown:
Jeramy Shaw 6’4″ Machine Elite: The dynamic wing from Valley Park enjoyed an excellent weekend, especially on Sunday when he had a couple of games in the high 20’s. He displayed his tremendous athleticism in the open court when he threw down some impressive dunks in a victory over Young & Reckless from Chicago. He is a skilled performer who is difficult to keep out of the lane, plus he can drop dimes when he isn’t getting buckets. His length is also advantageous on the defensive end.
Jaron Thames 6’5″ Champs: The skilled wing player from Trinity Catholic was playing for a team from Arkansas for the weekend. He led them to the semifinals of the Platinum Division. Not only was he the team’s primary scorer, but he was also the primary ball handler as well. He handled the responsibility well as he created buckets and knocked down several jumpers off the dribble.
Eli Dowis 6’1″ KC Pacers Blue: The explosive guard from Maryville was one of the most prodigious athletes at the tournament. He displayed it in several ways with alley-oop dunks, rebounds over the square and a few blocked shots on the break. His athleticism is beyond impressive. He also displayed the ability to knock down an open 3-pointer off the catch and handled the ball pretty well. As he continues to improve his skill level to compliment his athleticism, he will be an intriguing prospect to watch.
Avery Taggert 6’4″ T.E.M Select: The physical wing from Eureka was productive over the weekend with his scoring and playmaking ability. He is so difficult to matchup with because his big body enables him to play though any kind of contact and his skill set enables him to get buckets from many spots on the floor. I love his spin move in the lane and his pull up mid-range jumper. He can also knock down the open 3-pointer off the catch.
Riley Oberbeck 6’3″ Missouri Showtime: A very fundamentally sound guard from Strafford who is very good as a ball handler, passer and perimeter shooter. He plays the game with a lot of confidence because he knows what he’s doing. He was one of the best I watched at moving without the basketball and getting himself open. He is an excellent 3-point shooter, who can also put it on the floor and find the open man with nifty passing.
Terron Robinson 6’1″ St. Louis Cobras Elite: A dynamic guard from Francis Howell Central who was a consistent bucket-getter throughout the weekend. His scoring can come from anywhere. One moment, he’s throwing down a dunk in transition. The next, he slashing in the lane for a bucket or he is knocking down 3-pointers off the catch with consistency. He is a very confident scorer who plays with a high motor.
Tyrek Coleman 6’1″ St. Louis Cobras Elite: A very competitive wing player from Francis Howell Central that plays much bigger than his actual size. He is a good athlete who puts in a maximum effort at both ends of the floor. He gets out and runs hard in transition all the time and he attacks the rim off the dribble. He also gets his share of loose balls and offensive rebounds because of his tremendous activity.
Kendall Spruell 6’3″ Marcus Denmon Elite: A solid all-around wing player from Blue Springs who has a high basketball IQ. You can put the ball in his hands and run offense through him because he is going to make the right play consistently without a lot of mistakes. He is strong and a nice skill set where he can score around the basket or get you a bucket on the drive.
Sam Stichnote 6’3″ T.E.M. Select: A slashing young wing from Southern Boone who attacked the basket with confidence and vigor. I saw some very good athleticism with a couple of slam dunks in transition. He is a very competitive player who will rebound and play solid defense as well.
