Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown (Class of 2019 Point/Combo Guards)
Here are some of the top Class of 2019 point/combo guards from last weekend’s Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown in St. Louis:
Ahmad Louis 6’2″ Marcus Denmon Elite: A strong and dynamic combo guard from Oak Park who was capable of getting buckets in bunches. He was constantly on the attack either on the break or in the halfcourt offense. He has good athleticism and strength and he used it to get by defenders on the regular with tough finishes and pull up jumpers.
Trent Champagne 6’2″ T.E.M. Select: Big point guard from St. Charles West who did a good job of handling extreme pressure in a game against some very athletic guards from Chicago Young & Reckless. He took care off the ball and kept the offense flowing. His size enables him to score going to the basket, plus he has an excellent pull jumper from 15 feet, which is his go-to shot when he needs a bucket.
Eli Bigley 5’9″ Marcus Denmon Select: A go-go point guard from Lee’s Summit West who was fearless and very productive during the weekend with his up-tempo style of play. He was good with the dribble penetration and dump downs to open teammates or a few floaters over bigger defenders.
Ian Jones 6’1″ Missouri Showtime: My first time seeing this solid point guard from Bolivar in action and was impressed with his ability and overall floor game. He did a nice job of getting tough buckets in a couple of close games that I witnessed. He could shoot the 3-pointer, but he was also able to get in the lane.
Colin Goodwin 6’0″ Machine Elite: A very quick point guard from DeSmet who plays with excellent pace for a team that likes to push the ball. He is at his best when he is getting out on the break or trying to break down his defender and getting to the basket in the half court offense.
Kaleb Anderson 6’0″ St. Louis Cobras Elite: A solid point guard from Francis Howell Central who could make plays on both ends of the court. He displayed some excellent shooting range with a high-arching shot that would bring rain. He made five 3-pointers in a game I witnessed, plus added five steals. He likes to push the ball whenever possible.
Jake Farnsworth 5’11” All Missouri Attack: A slick ball handling point guard from Fordland who was very impressive as a floor leader and perimeter shooter. He didn’t force too many shots, but when he did, he was cash money from long distance. He made five of seven in one game that I watched. He handled the ball well against pressure and found the open man.
