KC Classic: Top guards
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The final day of the Kansas City Classic in Lawrence, Kan. on Sunday featured several players putting together solid performances. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who raised their profile at the event.
24 — AJ Dickerson, 6’3, SG, 2019, Junction City (Kan.), SSA Elite Black (2-guard)
Dickerson continues to fly under the radar in Kansas hoops as a prospect, but has shown the ability to create his own shot off the bounce and is a consistent outside shooter. He is a strong, physical athlete who can defend, get to the basket off the bounce and can throw down the occasional dunk.
Dominic Messina, 6’0, G, 2019, Olathe West, Team KC 17U (2 guard)
Messina had it all working in the second half of a contest against MN Comets on Friday, showcasing an assortment of floaters and runners in the lane. He is a creative ball handler, able to shake defender off the bounce and get into the lane.
0 — Glen McClintock, 6’2, SG, 2019, Rockhurst (Mo.), KC Team Rush (2 guard)
McClintock continues to shine this spring for Team Rush, showcasing a smooth perimeter shot and some all-around abilities at guard. He can create his own shot off the bounce a little and brings good leadership skills and toughness to the court.
4 — Garrison Pope, 6’1, G, 2019, McLouth (Kan.), Kansas Cagers (2 guard)
Pope came off the Cagers bench Saturday afternoon and gave his team a much needed spark, scoring some much needed points in transition, providing some solid ball handling and playing hard-nosed, tough defense in the backcourt.
12 — Lamel Robinson, 6’0, G, 2019, Park Hill South, KC Team Rush (2 guard)
Robinson put together several big games throughout the weekend in Lawrence and showed the ability to carry a team at the offensive end of the floor. He brings toughness, the ability to handle the ball and get wherever he wants on the court as well as the ability to score at all three levels. He will be among the top returning guards in Missouri next season.
22 — Alyus Wisdom, 6’1, G, 2020, Free State (Kan.), Primetime Ballerz (2 guards)
Armed with an old-school mid-range game, Wisdon showed he can elevate over players from 10-15 feet and knock down shots. He added several buckets in transition and made a host of hustle plays, coming up with key steals and turning turnovers into easy points on Friday in a win over the KC Magic.
