2019 Players to Watch
Note: Players on this list are players that I’ve seen play live. If you believe there is a player that deserves more recognition on this site, please feel free to email me at zachary.tyler.manning@gmail.com and I will be glad to get that player more exposure.
Carrington McCaskill (Detroit Renaissance)
What more can you say about McCaskill? He’s Michigan’s No. 5 prospect for the class of 2019 and shows why every time he steps foot on the court. He has a high motor and is relentless around the basket. Not only is he a great offensive weapon, but he’s great at contesting shots and making teams work for every basket. He’s a Division I caliber player and should pick up a bunch of offers next year.
Daniel Friday (UD Jesuit)
Friday reminds me a lot of Draymond Green. He does the little things to help his team win and that’s what is most important to him. He doesn’t need to score to make an impact on the game. I was watching him in the MHSAA playoffs this past season, and in one game he had around six or seven points, 12 rebounds and five or six assists. He’s a team player that really understands how to impact the game on both ends of the court.
Isaiah Lewis (Wayne Memorial)
Man, can this kid score the basketball. His ability to break down a defender, create space and put the ball in the basket is out of this world. He’s a little small at 5-foot-11, but that doesn’t stop him from dominating opponents. He can go off for 30 on any given night and is a nightmare for any opposing team. I expect him to pick up a ton of offers heading into his senior year.
Dan Few (River Rouge)
Few is an absolute monster down low. The 6-foot-6 forward is a rebounding machine that is working on his low post game. He still needs to work on developing a consistent mid range jumper, but outside of that, he’s everything you want in a player. He hustles, he protects the rim, he rebounds and he can get you a basket when called upon. River Rouge is loaded with talent, so Few doesn’t get a ton of recognition, but I’d argue he’s one of their most important players.
Savion Gray (Kennedy)
The Downriver League doesn’t get a lot of exposure, but Savion Gray is a name you should get to know. He’s a very good all-around player that just wants to win. Gray is a lot like DeMar DeRozan. He is a great mid-range scorer that can knock down threes occasionally. Gray is a very speedy player that prides himself on defense. He gets a ton of steals, which leads to easy baskets on the other end. He hasn’t received much college interest yet, but I expect that to change heading into next season.
