Spring Spotlight: Henry Hunter Catches Us Up On His Spring With A Look Ahead At The Summer
Henry Hunter, a noted glue guy for Bishop Kelly last season, chatted with Prep Hoops Idaho recently about his Spring and updated us on his Summer plans as well.
Hunter was an excellent piece to a Bishop Kelly squad that reached the state tournament after getting hot late in the season. From mid January to late February the Knights and Hunter rattled off 12 straight wins after a bit of a slow start to the year. Hunter was an integral piece alongside the heavily touted Max Rice. But, it was Hunter who often hit big shots and made key effort plays to help land the Knights back in the state tournament.
Hunter and his team loss their opening round game to a gritty Century team and would ultimately lose in the consolation final to Twin Falls. Despite the less than desired finish, there was plenty of moments where Hunter shined. Now, as we end the Spring portion of the calendar and enter Summer, Hunter shared with PHID what he has been up to while giving us a peek ahead to this Summer.
First, looking back at last season, Hunter told us, “I felt good about my high school season last year, it took a little bit getting used to but once I got that starting spot I started to play real well.”
Hunter’s Bishop Kelly team played pretty stout defense spearheaded by Hunter as they allowed 55.8 points per game which helped them win games during that hot stretch as they always had the fire power on offense.
Hunter plays his grassroots ball with FLITE and did so this Spring, which he said, “For spring I spent it with FLITE going to a few tournaments and I’ve been in the weight room getting stronger. ” An important note about Hunter is the added weight room time as some more strength would certainly benefit his game as he plays a tenacious brand of basketball.
Moving ahead to this Summer, Hunter added, “This summer and forward I’m working on getting my jumper consistent. I’m looking to the summer circuit for FLITE we’re going to good tournaments and will play good competition.”
As Hunter takes flight with his squad this Summer, he will certainly be one to watch in the grassroot tournaments FLITE participates in. Always one of the top grassroots programs in the state, Hunter’s experience after this past season with Bishop Kelly should bode well for him as he adds strength and more repetition in the gym. A noted grinder, Hunter will be a name to follow this Summer.
