Prospect Spotlight: Quincy Olivari (2020)
Westlake’s 6-foot-4 combo-guard Quincy Olivari taked pride in many things he things he does the court, and off of it.
A top prospect in Georgia’s 2019 class, Olivari not only gets it done on the hardwood, but sports a 3.9 GPA in the classroom, and that has warranted some interest from Ivy League school, Yale.
He says that academics have always played a prominent role in his life.
“My parents hold academics heavy over basketball, and without academics, I wouldn’t be playing basketball. It’s very important in my household,” said Olivari. “Having Yale recruit me is something special for me, because it shows me that the work I’ve been putting in in the classroom is paying off.”
A big guard who gets most of his points at the rim, Olivari is a guy that can score from all over the floor, and takes pride in his defense, too.
“I excel in transition, I get most of my points in transition. And the corner 3, and also defense are things I can do well,” he said.
“I’m also a leader on the floor, I’m a team captain on my AAU team and I was a team captain at Westlake as a junior.”
As a starting shooting guard with the Lions last season, Olivari averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game. He got hurt towards the end of the season, in January, when he sprained his foot.
He’s back healthy now, and is enjoying his spring with ATL Hoops 16U.
“It’s going great right now. We’ve been winning and I’ve been producing,” said Olivari.
In addition to the Yale interest, Olivari says he’s been hearing “heavily” from Rice, and he recently visited East Tennessee State. Other programs he mentioned were Murray State, Presbyterian and Winthrop.
“I’m really just looking forward to getting my first offer,” said Olivari. “I’ve been talking to multiple schools and have planned some visits and elite camps.”
