KC Classic: Top Big Men
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The final day of the Kansas City Classic in Lawrence, Kan. on Sunday featured several players putting together solid performances. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the top big men at the event.
23 — Noah Cubit, 6’8, F, 2020, Liberty (Mo.), Primetime Ballerz
An active big man, Cubit challenged shots in the paint and was active on the boards. He is still raw and needs to add some polish to his offensive game, but Cubit showed some potential for a kid who is a 2020 and 6’8.
6 — Kamto Eze, 6’6, F, 2019, Grandview (Mo.), KC Team Rush
Eze is a bouncy rim protector who played a key role on Grandview’s state championship team last season. He is capable of blocking shots, throwing down dunks around the basket and runs the floor like a deer. He is an agile athlete with good lateral quickness and has the ability to defend the basket in the post or switch onto a guard and defend on the perimeter.
25 — Darrius Hughes, 6’8, PF, 2019, Rockhurst (Mo.), KC Team Rush
Hughes put together a strong weekend, showing the ability to dominate a game in the paint and around the basket, especially against teams that didn’t have a big man to match up with him. Hughes is a strong, physical athlete, capable of playing above the rim, but is athletic enough to play a little on the perimeter at both ends of the floor as well.
33 — Marty Jackson, 6’6, F, 2018, Hogan Prep (Mo.), NDaGym
Jackson is a 2018 coming off a big season for Hogan Prep, helping the Rams win a Class 3 state championship. He is a versatile, inside-out big man who stretches the floor with his outside shooting, is a capable defender and shot blocker, and runs the floor exceptionally well.
22 — Michael Poux, 6’9, F/C, 2019, Castle View (Colo.), Colorado Chaos
Poux was all over the defensive glass on Saturday afternoon in a pool play win over the All-Missouri Attack, recording 10 rebounds in the first half alone. He is long, active and pursues the ball well off the boards. Offensively, he needs to get stronger and tougher with the ball, especially around the basket, but presents a big target and has the ability to put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket.
