Prospect Update: Trayvon Williams (2019)
In Iowa’s loaded class of 2019, Valley guard Trayvon Williams has established himself as a king of slash, and has some defensive tenacity to boot.
When the 6-foot-3 wing decides he’s going to attack the rim, there’s very few guys in state that can stop him. Maybe the best slashing guard in the Iowa, Williams says he’s been working of late to diversify his offensive prowess.
“I feel like my mid-range game has improved a lot,” said Williams, “and me being more of a vocal leader.”
As a junior at Valley, one of the state’s best teams, Williams had a breakout season. He led the Tigers in scoring, going for 10.2 points per game. He shot at a very efficient clip of 57 percent, and although shooting 3s isn’t his strong suit, he proved to be a capable outside shooter, canning seven of his 16 attempts. Williams also led the team in assists and steals.
“My junior year was good, we made a nice run but fell short in the semis. But it was great playing at Wells (Fargo Arena) for state,” said Williams. “I feel like my role will change (next season) by just some of my teammates looking for me to be a leader more and maybe score the ball a little more.”
This spring, Williams has been displaying his elite slashing ability, and strong defensive presence while playing with one of Iowa’s best units, Kingdom Hoops-Mosley 17U.
“Kingdom has been alright, there’s been some different adjustments but it’s been cool,” said Williams.
“This summer, I’m looking for exposure and doing what’s best for myself. I feel as if I try to help others so much sometimes, and I forget about myself and what’s best for my situation.”
Already with offers in tow from D1 programs Missouri-Kansas City and South Dakota State, Williams is looking to add to that list come July.
“My goals are to get more schools on my radar,” said Williams. “I hope to commit around high school ball.”
