KC Classic: Top Point Guards
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The final day of the Kansas City Classic in Lawrence, Kan. on Sunday featured several players putting together solid performances. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the top shooters at the event.
15 — Spencer Bain, 6’1, G, 2020, Blue Valley West (Kan.), MoKan Elite
Known for his outside shooting and shot making abilities, Bain has developed into an all-around player with the ability to handle some point guard duties and play off the ball as well. He has a good feel for the game, moves well without the ball and competes at both ends of the floor.
4 — Armahn Downing, 6’1, G, 2019, Washburn Rural (Kan.), SSA Elite Black
Downing is largely an underrated prospect in Topeka and shows the ability to run a team at the point, handle the ball and create his own shot off the dribble. He has the ability to get all the way to the basket, or can pull up off the bounce as well.
12 — Nolan Ford, 6’0, PG, 2019, Basehor-Linwood (Kan.), KC Spurs Grey
Ford brings good leadership qualities to the floor and has the ability to get his team into its offense and take care of the ball without turning it over. He can create a little off the bounce and knock down shots, but is at his best leading a team with unselfish play.
13 — Cameron Green, 5’11, PG, 2019, Blue Valley (Kan.), KC Spurs Grey
Green is a hard charging point guard who is seemingly always attacking the defense. He keeps his body and dribble low to the ground, is hard to take the ball away from and has a knack for getting to the basket and drawing fouls. He was one of several Spurs Grey players who put together a big weekend, including a big opening day win over Team Rush.
6 — Johnny Murdock, 5’10, G, 2019, Wichita Southeast (Kan.), River City Hoops
Long known for his outside shooting and ability to fill it up from distance, Murdock has developed into a true point, capable of handling pressure, getting to the basket and leading a team. He still has the ability to knock down perimeter shots and uses that ability to draw defenders and get to the basket.
