KC Classic: Top Shooters
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The final day of the Kansas City Classic in Lawrence, Kan. on Sunday featured several players putting together solid performances. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the top shooters at the event.
23 — Dawson Herl, 6’4, G, 2019, William Chrisman (Mo.), KC Pacers Blue (top shooters)
Herl just finds a way to make things happen at both ends of the floor. He has good size at 6’4, can shoot, handle the ball and is a good passer along the perimeter.
4 — Chase Hettinger, 6’5, G, 2019, Castleview (Colo.), Colorado Hawks Nations (top shooters)
A 2 guard with some hops and the ability to really stroke it from behind the arc. He showed the ability to lock players up at the defensive end of the floor and rebounds well.
34 — Sebastian Simmons, 6’1, G/F, 2019, Union (Iowa), Team Iowa Red (Shooter)
A left hander, Simmons moves exceptionally well without the ball, has a quick release from behind the 3-point arc and finds a way to make buckets in the paint over and around bigger, more athletic players. He went for eight first half points on Friday as he helped Team Iowa Red hang tough with a talented MoKan Elite 16U squad.
4 — Jonathan Jeffries, 6’0, G, 2019, Lamar (Mo.), Victory (Shooters)
Jeffries had a strong weekend shooting the ball, including knocking down a game-winner. He showed some solid ball handling throughout the weekend and rarely coughed the ball up in the backcourt. Jeffries is a player to watch this upcoming season at Lamar under a new head coach.
14 — Jamal Long, 6’1, G, 2019, Raytown (Mo.), KC Magic (top shooters)
Long shows a smooth perimeter jumper out to the 3-point arc with good form and balance and a quick release. He didn’t have it quite dialed in through the early going on Friday against Primetime Ballerz, but showed the ability to handle the ball and contribute in other ways.
14-Broc Smith, 6’4, G, 2019, Republic, Missouri Team Carroll (top shooters)
A hard-working guard who can handle pressure and get his shot off in a hurry. Smith let it fly from deep and was nearly unstoppable from the wing at times. He only needs an inch of separation to get it off and can find that and more with his step-back. Also stays active on defense and around the glass. Gets in the face of opponents and contests every 3-point shot around him.
