Four Things that caught my eye Friday Night
1. OK Power’s Hustle- unselfish team ball, good defense. Often times in grassroots basketball you find that players are all about themselves and not the team. Oklahoma Power’s 16U team played as a team. They were unselfish and bought into what their coach wanted them to do. The effort was on their side. They are a talented team but their effort is what makes them a team that you do not want to play. Oklahoma Power 16U is a team to watch throughout the tournament.
2. Shemar Smith 2019 Team Griffin Wing was a beast on the court in their first game. He showed his athleticism throughout the game with some SportsCenter Top 10 type of dunks. This game was full of dunks but a Lob to Smith changed the momentum of the game. He got one while his team trailed and it led to a big run by Team Griffin. Then after they built a steady lead he threw down a reverse alley-oop that would have been impressive at any level of the game.
3. There’s a lot of talent in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is not shy in the talent pool. Throughout the age groups, the talent has been on display. Whether it was in the 14U with players like Jaiden Graves 2023 Devoted Guard or in 17U with all of the NCAA Division I talent on display. Oklahoma has players that will go on to star at all levels of the game. If Oklahoma teams will continue to develop their talent there could be some big names coming from Oklahoma.
4. The pride is on the line in the PrepHoops Oklahoma State Tournament. The intensity this weekend is different than the intensity you see at most summer events. The players want to win this tournament and it shows. The effort is on display and the games will continue to be tight because of how much they want it. This tournament promises to have some entertaining games throughout the tournament. It will be fun to see who gets crowned the state champions of Oklahoma.
