Recruiting Report: Fred Cleveland (2019)
Leo 2019 point guard Fred Cleveland is a small guard that produces. For him it all starts with his defensive intensity. Long arms for his size allows him to be pesky at the point of attack. He records quite a few steals that he takes the other way for layups. Knows how to shield defenders away from the ball. Solid jump shooter. Has some playmaking ability.
Cleveland spoke about his junior campaign at Leo as they were one of the top 2A teams all season.
“It was my best season since I have been in high school. Coach put me in the right situations. Me and Dachaun (Anderson) played off each other. Gave us a great winning season.”
Where did he see the most personal growth this past year?
“I improved on finishing at the rim. My mid-range is better. My defense got better too.”
Defensively Cleveland can get after it at the point of attack.
“I got long arms and my coaches with RWA want me to play up and show college coaches that since my height is smaller I can still guard bigger opponents and with my length I can get in passing lanes.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have interest from Northern Illinois and Illinois State. St. Louis has been in contact.”
“I am looking forward to going to Northern Illinois for a visit. It is a good school. When we went there for camp I liked how it was.”
