Recruiting Report: Johnny Close (2020)
Class of 2020 shooting guard Johnny Close is a 6’2” wing from Rockford Boylan that can flat out shoot the rock! Close is lights out shooting from deep drilling an array of threes off the catch in almost every game we saw him this spring for Young & Reckless. When his feet are set it is straight money! He has a picture perfect release with elevation off the floor. Mixes in some transition finishes and a straight line drives on occasion. His passing and defense also showed growth. If he can continue to diversify his game that will only help his recruitment as he is one of the best pure shooters in the state. Close projects as a D2 stud shooter!
He spoke about his high school season at Boylan this past year as a sophomore.
“It was a real good year. We made it to super sectionals which was big for us. I think I helped us out a lot in the postseason stretch. I hurt my ankle and came back strong in the postseason.”
Close told us what he feels he does well on the floor.
“Obviously I am known as a shooter. I have been trying to work on my mid-range game and getting other people involved. Digging in on defense and rebounding too.”
Any college interest?
“Right now I have interest from Wisconsin Green Bay and am going to their elite camp.”
