Top 5 Floor Generals from OTRH’s Atlanta Classic
-
Myson Lowe
Myson Lowe 2020 (Whitfield Academy/ Game Elite Blue)
- One of the best pure point guards at Atlanta Classic this past weekend was Game Elite Blue’s Myson Lowe. The future Whitfield Academy Wolf had some of the flashiest passes, left and right hand, off the pick and roll and looked comfortable when getting his teammates involved in the offense. Lowe has a tight handle on the basketball and knocked down perimeter shots consistently when presented the opportunity. Lowe, who showed his basketball IQ on the defensive end, was also fearless in his attacks to the basket and showed some finesse as he placed high arcing lay-ups and floaters over taller defenders.
Messiah Thompson
- Messiah Thompson (North Atlanta HS / Infinite Skillz)
- Thompson, who is a somewhat familiar name in the peach state basketball world, continued his stellar AAU play at the Atlanta Classic this past weekend. Thompson is quick in the open floor and changes speed with the best of them with either hand on his way to the basket. He has excellent vision, finding teammates for lobs and easy lay-ups. He is a guard that isn’t turnover happy and knows how to play with a lead late without giving extra possessions to the opposition.
- Michael Moncrease 2021 (Discovery HS/ Rebels Premiere XXL)
- Moncrease, baseline to baseline, was arguable the quickest guard in the open floor at Atlanta Classic. He understands the meaning of fast break basketball and was a catalyst for a Rebels Premiere team that looked to get the ball down the floor in a hurry off their opponents misses. He finished breaks on either side and had the speed to get past the transition defense when it was present. In the half court, Moncrease has a lethal crossover and used that to get into the lane for impressive finishes and to dish the ball to cutting teammates as well.
- K’won Bush 2019 (Whitewater HS / Georgia Heat)
K’won Bush
- On numerous occasions it was Bush that carried the load offensively for the Georgia Heat but when teammates were finishing plays, they were usually coming from his hands. Bush is a legitimate threat from behind the arc, knocking down five 3s in one game, and didn’t allow defenders to speed him up when play got chaotic or slow him down when it was more beneficial to get the ball out in transition. He is a small but crafty guard who showed a lot of poise in tight, back and forth game situations.
- Jaylen Blount 2021 (Hephzibah HS / Team Power)
- Blount, who has great size for a freshman, showed his ability to get downhill off the dribble at the Atlanta Classic showcase. He was another guard that excelled when getting out in transition and did a good job of making teammates better by putting them in positions to be successful but making the best play for the team, regardless of who took the shot that time down. Blount possesses versatility to play off the ball as well but in today’s game having a scorer that naturally facilitates and sees the floor, point guard is undoubtedly the best position for him.
