Prospect Profile: Daniel Kovalev (2019 Lincoln HS/Team Fly North)
There’s no question that Team Fly North is filled with talented offensive players. But behind every offensive machine there needs to be the engine that makes it go and this spring that engine has been Daniel Kovalev. The quick 6-foot, 175-pound point guard from Lincoln has bene pushing the pace while working on his own game with the hopes of getting college looks down the line.
“So far with Team Fly it’s been going really good,” Kovalev said. “We’ve got a lot of good guys and a lot of good players. It’s fun playing AAU ball as we really get up and down the court. I feel like I’ve been a leader and helping guys score.”
Kovalev was a secondary engine on Lincoln this past season as he played alongside all-state guard Bryce Sloan. He knows his role will become more of a primary one next winter so he’s been using AAU ball to work on his game. “I’m definitely working on my shot,” Kovalev said. “I’m trying to stop hesitating and letting it fly more. I’m also working on being crafty with my ball-handling.”
Kovalev is also hoping for an opportunity to play college ball. The interest from schools is just getting started and he’s hoping a big summer with Team Fly North will translate into some options. “I’m looking for something that really fits my style of play,” Kovolev said. “I’m hoping I’ll get some looks. I’m hoping to win some tournaments with the team and get my name out.”
Kovalev ranks as the #48 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
