Prospect Profile: Drayton Caoile (2019 West Linn HS)
Normally at West Linn, Drayton Caoile is entrenched at the point. This spring, the 6-foot, 175-pound rising senior is playing a bit of a different role. He’s been fine with giving up sole control of the ball as The Hoop Salem 17U team is getting it done on the court and he’s drawing college attention to boot.
“I’ve been trying to do anything that will help us win games,” Caoile said. “One game I might be only playing defense and giving hustle plays while some games I’ll be scoring the ball. I really like playing the ball with (Jaden Nielsen-Skinner) as he passes the ball a lot, so there aren’t many times when you’re not involved.”
The summer has been busy for Caoile who has not only been practicing with his teammtes but also working out on his own. “I’ve been mainly working on my athleticism and getting quicker,” Caoile said. “I’m also working on getting my shot more consistent.”
First from playing with West Linn and now from the AAU circuit, Caoile has drawn recruiting attention from schools. Washington State and Yale have been invited him to their summer camp and he’s also been hearing from Cal Poly. “I’m wide open but I definitely like Chaminade a lot,” Caoile said. “They came to watch us when we played in Hawaii and one of their coaches is from Oregon. I know him and he knows my family, and I like that they’re in Hawaii a lot.”
Caoile broke down what he’s looking for at the next level. “Academics, for sure,” Caoile said. “I’m also looking at location and having a good relationship with the coaches. I also want to know if I’m going to play.”
Caoile currently ranks as the #10 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
