Jayhawk Invitational: Top bigs (2020)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.— Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the top 2020 big men at last weekend’s Jayhawk Invitational in Kansas City.
0 — Kobe Johnson, 6’5, F, 2020, Ottawa, KC Run GMC
Kid with a strong, physical frame with an emerging, diverse skill set. He runs the floor well, finishes in transition and showed the ability to knock down short shots on the baseline. His play throughout the weekend was key for an undersized Run GMC team as he gave the squad a physical presence in the paint and on the boards.
10-Ousman Gueye, 6’7, F, 2020, Sunrise, Pray N Play
Gueve dominated day one with his play around the glass. He has great height at 6’7 and can stretch the floor and pull opponents out of the paint. He’s a talented ball handler with the ability to spin his way to the goal and finish above the rim. He fights for rebounds and enjoys blocking every shot he can get his hand on. A smart player who is hard to contain.
13-Thomas King, 6’6, C, 2020, NLHA
A thin center who is great at blocking shots and cleaning up around the glass. He’s fast for his height and has good hands and quick feet. He keeps opponents in front of him and plays tight body-to-body on the block. On offense, King like to make the most of his speed. He’s bouncy around the basket and can score off the glass left and right when he’s feeling it.
36-Doza Pitia, F, 2020, Staley, NDaGym
Piatia impressed early with his solid paint presence and resilience. He fights for position and can make good things happen in bad situations. He likes contact and can push his way around under the basket. Piatia has good size for the block, good hands and good feet, too. When he grabs a board near the basket it’s almost always an automatic two points.
21 — Reece Williams, 6’7, PF, 2020, Leavenworth, KC Run GMC 16U
A skilled big man, Williams combines strength and skill to form a unique post player. Williams had a terrific weekend on the boards and played big in the paint at the defensive end. Offensively, Williams has terrific hands and is strong with the ball, is comfortable in the high post and is a good passer.
