Q&A: Demarian Turmon (2018)
Demarian Turmon is a very quick guard that is great at getting his teammates involved. He averaged 12 points, six assists and two steals per game last season. I had the chance to ask him some questions about his game and life outside of basketball. Learn more about the 5-foot-8 guard here.
What are you strengths and what are some things you are still working on?
“My speed, passing and ability to create shots off of the dribble are my strengths. I am still working on being an active talker on both ends of the floor and being a consistent shooter.”
Who is your hero/role model? Why?
“Nate Robinson. He taught me that size doesn’t matter playing basketball and to prove others wrong.”
Who are some guys you like to mold your game after? Why?
“Nate Robinson and Derrick Rose. They are both very aggressive when they attack the basket and they continue to work on their craft, which I believe is important if you want to be able to score in multiple ways.”
What would you like college coaches to know about you that they might not be able to see by just watching film?
“I want college coaches to know that besides being a team player, I bring energy to the table and I treat and bring everyone in like family. I believe when there is chemistry off of the court, there is chemistry on the court as well. I also have a tremendous work ethic, I’m easily motivated by anything and I never feel like the job is done. There is always room for improvement.”
What do you see yourself doing after basketball?
“I see myself being a sports analyst. I love to watch sports, learn and teach others.”
What is your favorite subject in school? Why?
Algebra. I’ve always been great with numbers and it’s a natural talent.”
Who is the toughest player you’ve had to guard and what made him so tough to defend?
“Tray Jackson. He’s tall, but aside from that, he was able to shoot at will and create space very well to get his shot off. Playing 1-on-1 with him was very tough.”
What is the toughest environment you’ve ever had to play in?
“The toughest environment I’ve ever had to play in was a championship game while college coaches were all around and playing against the toughest team. You feel as if you don’t want to mess up and you start to panic, but I’ve learned to have mental toughness and now I’m used to pressure.”
If you could play alongside any other player in the country, who would it be and why?
“I would play alongside David DeJulius. As a basketball player, I’m also a role model and a mentor to some kids and it’s deeper than the sport. This sport creates relationships and keeps people out of trouble, and David shows role modeling skills and mentoring skills along with great basketball skills, so I would definitely play alongside him.”
What are your dreams and goals in basketball?
“My goal is to become a professional basketball player. I plan on helping my family and giving back to the community. Doing this would complete my bucket list. If I’m blessed to the point of being in the NBA, then I will gladly be there. But right now, just being professional is the goal.”
