Recruiting Report: Trevon Cason (2019)
At the Hoop Group Pitt JamFest, the Hoop Group Showcase League was filled with talent from all over the country, and one of the new teams, Team M.O.A.M. out of Florida, was impressive when they got it going.
One of the more impressive guys for them was 6’2” point guard Trevon Cason from Edgewater School in Orlando. Cason is al lightning quick and shifty lead guard who is an impact guy on both ends of the floor, and he knows that his biggest impact can come in hounding ball handlers defensively and helping his team win.
“I’m just trying to stay in shape and play defense, that’s what I came here for,” Cason said. “I didn’t really come here to impress scouts, I just want to win games and get some dubs.”
While he wasn’t interested in impressing scouts, his quickness and ability to get in the lane and make plays for himself and others. He’s a good shooter from deep, but he’s much more affective getting downhill and playing in transition, getting to the rim and finishing with both hands through traffic
“I can get to the rack, get to the free throw line, get in the lane and dish it off when help side comes and I can really play defense,” he said. “I need to quicken up my shot and just continue to listen to my coaches.”
Cason is seeing interest from a number of schools at all levels, including Navy, Murray State, University of Tampa, Embry-Riddle and The Citadel. While his abilities on the court stand out, he feels like his demeanor off the court should be taken into account as well when coaches consider recruiting him.
“I’m a good kid, I play smart, I’m not a hot head and I listen!”
Cason should continue to improve and grow, as he’s gotten much better by all accounts over the last couple of seasons. Expect him to be a sleeper in the central Florida area and have a big time senior season moving forward.
