Recruiting Update: Bryce Sloan (2018 Lincoln HS)
Forgive Bryce Sloan if he’s a bit overwhelmed at the moment. After the all-around 6-foot-4 point guard from Lincoln finished the season with a bang, his phone has been ringing off the hook from college coaches wanting his future services. He’s got scholarship offers, he’s taken some visits, and there’s simply a lot for him to process right now.
Breaking it down, here’s what Sloan is sorting through. Division I Marist has offered a full ride scholarship. He’s also been hearing from Loyola Marymount, San Diego, and UC Riverside, and Incarnate Word recently started calling. Division II schools from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference like Western Oregon, Western Washington, and St. Martin’s have offered scholarships, as have other D-IIs such as Cal State Monterey Bay and Point Loma Nazarene.
As the only Division I school that has offered so far, Marist is obviously attractive to Sloan and he recently made an official visit to campus. “They’ve got a new coaching staff that is very welcoming and I like how their guys get along really well,” Sloan said. “The facilities there are beautiful. It would be a great opportunity for me.”
While Sloan enjoyed his time at Marist, he stopped short of committing because he’s fully considering his other options. He’s also visited the GNAC schools that have offered and he likes what he’s been hearing from them as well. “Their coaching staffs – they’re great people,” Sloan said. “I like what they tell me – there are no surprises.”
With other schools continuing to call, it’s no surprise it’s tough for Sloan to take everything in. Especially since right now as a member of Lincoln’s golf team, he is preparing for the state golf tournament next week and he’s fully focused on that. When that is done he’ll transition over to his recruitment again and try to figure out what the future holds.
“I want what is the best opportunity for me,” Sloan said. “I want to go where I can play and make an impact. I want to be able to leave a legacy.”
