17U Kansas College Prospects (Wings)- Prep Hoops Series: Kansas City
This is by no means a comprehensive list of college prospects from the Prep Hoops Series in Kansas City but the following prospects are all players who have a future at the next level and are homegrown talent right here in the state of Kansas.
This list of prospects consists of wings who stood out over the weekend. Depending on my familiarity and times seen, a recommendation of level may or may not be given.
Dyelan Reed (2019)- SSA Elite Black 17U
Dyelan showed a lot of versatility this weekend, able to handle the ball on the wing and create scoring opportunities, probably SSA’s most consistent player this weekend.
He is big enough at 6’4” to consistently get his shot off on the perimeter against smaller defenders but also be effective beating his man off the dribble and being efficient in the paint.
Dyelan has heard from a handful of schools from the NAIA/D2 level.
Keenan Miller (2019)- River City Elite 17U
This was my first time seeing Keenan but he showed next level athleticism and at 6’5” able to do some very positive things on the wing defensively using his length to his advantage.
He also showed an ability to catch and shoot on the perimeter and wasn’t shy about mixing it up in the paint, being a factor on the boards for River City.
To my understanding, Keenan is rather new to the state of Kansas coming from Missouri, only giving him a year of exposure in the state of Kansas so far but definitely a prospect colleges should have on their list.
Jacob Coleman (2019)- Mokan Select 17U
Jacob had a fantastic weekend and was very fun to watch as this was my first time seeing him play as well. He was cold-blooded down the stretch of the championship game against the KC Pacers squad.
Everytime the Pacers gained momentum and started to pull away, Jacob would respond, shooting a good percentage from three.
The skilled 6’5” wing also had success getting into the teeth of the defense on Saturday and making great decisions in one of the more impressive performances I saw all weekend with a 23 point, 5 assist game.
Defensively the effort is there and he moves well on the ball and had multiple games with 2+ steals. Jacob has a high ceiling given his size and what he can do currently and has mainly heard from Division II schools at this point.
Trey Duffey (2019)- SSA Elite Black 17U
Trey showed his upside as a valuable glue guy this weekend, contributing to his team’s success in a variety of ways. At times, he was their top scorer and at other times he took a backseat and made more of an impact on defense and rebounding.
Trey is a talented athlete, winning the 5-A tennis regional title for Topeka-Seaman and doing so the same day of SSA’s first game of the weekend.
With a high powered motor, good midrange game, excellent free-throw shooting, and great intangibles, Trey is definitely poised for future offers to play basketball.
He is currently seeing interest as high as the Division II level currently.
Cecil Lee(2018)- KC Pacers Blue 17U
Cecil Lee is definitely someone who can and will play basketball at the next level, showing a lot of upside in the spring tournaments that I’ve seen him so far.
6’5” and extremely long, he serves as a rim protector at times on defense and you won’t find someone who crashes the offensive boards harder or more consistently than him.
He has big hands and is very athletic, about tearing the rim off multiple times in Kansas City this weekend. He did struggle to shoot the ball at times which he will need to clean up in order to play at the higher levels of college basketball but a very solid prospect nonetheless.
