Prep Hoops Series- Kansas City: Weekend Standouts (14U-16U)
A lot of under the radar performances this weekend in Lawrence, Kansas. Here were some standouts from a variety of age groups.
Mikele Kambalo– SD Venom 14U National
The 5’8” PG caught my eye immediately. He’s a shifty prospect who is very difficult to bottle up in the halfcourt and in transition.
He made great reads utilizing two foot jump stops and kept his teammates involved. He was also active defensively, providing good perimeter defense.
Tanner Te Slaa- SD Venom 14U National
Tanner is the regulator on the boards for SD Venom and a very versatile weapon for them as well.
He is good in the paint but has the skill to play out on the wing with effectiveness demonstrating good ball handling and slashing ability this weekend. He will be another prospect to watch that will be in action at the Prep Hoops Battle of the Lakes coming up shortly.
Ka’ovionne Johnson (2020)- KC Pacers Blue 16U
Ka’ovionne is very raw and still needs time to develop but what you can’t teach is his supreme length and athleticism.
With more discipline, he will be a very good rim protector and already impacts the game on the boards. His offensive game needs polished but he has a high ceiling being in the class of 2020.
Marcus Beck (2022)- SSA Elite Black 14U
Marcus played hard this weekend and in particular I saw him make a real difference on the glass.
He was actively crashing the board on the offensive end and did a nice job going back up with the ball and finishing in the paint.
Grant Stubbs (2020)- Mokan Select 16U
The 6’5” wing had a bigtime performance on Saturday with 21 points.
In addition to his scoring Grant also impacted the game through rebounding and effort, showing his value as a prospect both ways.
