Prospect Update: Dom Robertson (2019)
Dom Robertson is already one of the more dynamic players in all of Class 2A, and now he’s working on non-tangibles, leadership and hoops IQ.
He’ll do so while running with the Iowa Mavericks’ top 17U squad this spring and summer.
“What I’ve improved on is taking my captain levels up to the next level, and really improving on defense, and pushing the ball, pushing the tempo and seeing the whole floor,” said Robertson. “I’m working on analyzing things better, even the defense, and keeping the pace and keeping things moving.”
At Oelwein last season, the rangy, do-it-all guard averaged 14.1 points, 4.5 assists, 3.2 steals and 5.5 rebounds per game. That was a down year for the junior, according to him.
“To be honest, I felt like this year was kind of a down year. But I did wrap up the season on a good note, the last game of the year was my best game of the season,” said Robertson.
He’ll look to carry that momentum into the rest of his spring and summer with Iowa Mavericks Gray 17U.
“The whole team is full of captains and leaders, and we all have a different way of showing that,” said Robertson. “My role is to keep the team mentally in it, instead of being a main scorer. I don’t have to score all the time with this team, I can work on other parts of my game.”
And although his recruitment has been slow up to this point, it has started to bud very recently.
“It’s still a little slow, but it’s starting to catch. There’s some coaches that have my name now, and they know who I am,” said Robertson.
“I got talked to by the Coe College coach and stuff like that keeps me motivated. So, even though it’s slow right now, I know it’ll pick up after I keep playing and keep improving.”
Dom Robertson is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top 75 prospect in his class.
