Run N Slam: Friday Standouts
PrepHoopsIllinois opened the first night of Run N Slam in Ft Wayne by watching alot of 16U and 15U action until well beyond midnight! Here are a few of the standout performers!
SF Jabari Chiphe (Made Men 16U)
This is Walter Payton 2020 wing has gotten much stronger in his upper body since we saw we saw him during the high school season. Multiple smooth drives to the hoop with slick acceleration off the bounce. Quick second jump allows him to get on the offense of glass. Drilled a couple of jump shots with a clean release on his jumper. Finished with 17 points.
PG Michael Osborne (Made Men 16U)
This Proviso East point guard really pushed the ball in transition in their first game of the tournament. Consistently got to the rim in transition and found his teammates for good shots. Quality decision making in the half court. Plus mid-range jump shooter as he drilled them for days. Finished with 16 points.
PG Anthony Sayles (Illinois Wolves 15U)
Sayles is a lead guard from Niles Notre Dame that is super athletic. He used that athleticism to get to the rack throughout their game being fouled on a variety of takes. His elite hops were shown on a poster dunk as well as high pointing several rebounds. As the game went along his jump shot started to fall. Works very well in the pick and roll making good decisions putting the ball on the money. Finished with 21 points.
C Chris Hodges (Illinois Wolves 15U)
This Schaumburg post was very impressive on Friday night. Big and physical center that snatched rebounds in traffic. Excellent area rebounder. Was assertive on the glass throughout the game. Showed more mobility than we have seen in the past out of him especially working in the pick and roll. He had 15 points.
PG Tyler Beard (Meanstreets 16U)
The Whitney Young 2020 point guard is really hitting his stride this spring. He is an explosive point guard with a great explosion to the hoop. Showed that off throughout the night with transition scores and beating his man one on one off the bounce. Converted several and-1 opportunities. Played with an all out motor. Beard had 17 points on the night.
PG DJ Steward (Meanstreets 16U)
Steward is one of the top prospects in the 2020 class in Illinois. Got on the offensive glass for several put backs with his quickness from the guard position. So smooth with the rock in his hands getting anywhere he wants on the floor. Ran into a transition three. Scored a quiet 17 points on the night.
SG Ahamad Bynum (Mac Irvin Fire 15U)
This was absolutely the best we have seen the Simeon 2021 wing play. In a super late game against a highly touted prospect from Michigan, Bynum was the star on the floor. He took it right at the defense over and over again with his power and athleticism finishing at the cup. His motor was absolutely relentless throughout the game. Also his jumper was on point drilling multiple threes both off the catch and pulling up. Went for 20+ points.
PG Boopie Miller (Mac Irvin Fire 15U)
Miller is a tiny guard but he can really shoot the basketball. The Morgan Park 2021 lead guard drilled an array of threes and also got to the hoop on several occasions where he finished with acrobatic layups.
