Southwestern is led by 2018 sharpshooter Steven Fitzgerald with Casey County led by 2017 combo guard Jake Smith and 2016 forward D.J. White. Both teams also have depth that should make this an exciting game. In the end Southwestern is at home and I think has a little more talent and depth. Warriors win by 8.
12/8: Augusta at Bracken County: A big time rivalry game and the first time new Bracken County head coach Jason Hinson faces his old team. Augusta has quality senior guards in Cam Snapp, Connor Maddox and Owens Crawford, while Bracken County has arguably the best player in the 10th region in Austin Crawford. I think Crawford leads his team to a big win by a narrow margin, let’s say 2 points.
12/8: Corbin at #21 Clay County: This game is big for the 13th region. Sophomore Andrew Taylor leads Corbin against Clay County and their senior duo of Blake Smith and Trey Farmer. Clay County wins this one by about 10 points despite a big night from Taylor.
12/8: #23 Bryan Station at #7 Henry Clay: Station has been without star forward DeAndre Dishman their first couple games. Even with Dishman it would be tough for the Defenders to get a win at Henry Clay. Seniors Isaiah Tisdale and Leander Ridgeway can score the ball and have help behind them. Henry Clay by double digits in this one.
12/8: #3 Paul Laurence Dunbar at #10 Lafayette: Lafayette is anchored by one of the best post players in the state in Ross Jenkins and they have a knockdown shooter in Harrison Lane. However Dunbar has one of the hottest players in the state in Taveion Hollingsworth, Bulldogs by 8 in this one.
12/8: #12 Eastern at #25 North Hardin: Eastern beat a really talented Central team last week, while North Hardin lost to an unranked Oldham County team. North Hardin’s Tony Jackson will be the best player on the floor, but Chance Moore and Caleb Williams lead Eastern to another win over a ranked team.
12/8: Montgomery County at Paris: Paris had a letdown in their first game losing to a rebuilding Scott County team, while Montgomery County went 3-0 last week with a win over Scott County. Art Walker and Jerryd Jones lead Montgomery County past Koebe Garrard and Paris.
12/11: North Bullit at Bullitt Central: Bullitt County rivals face off in want should be a good game with both teams having successful first weeks. Also two of the best freshmen in Kentucky will be on the court in Bullitt Central’s Mason Shifflett and North Bullitt’s Corey Girton.
12/11: #7 Henry Clay at #12 Eastern: Both teams are really good, Henry Clay has more experience, but I think Eastern has more talent and they’re at home. Eagles win this one by one point.
12/11: #3 Paul Laurence Dunbar at Lexington Catholic: Lexington Catholic stumbled last week against Newport Central Catholic. But, they’ll be up for this game and two of the best scorers in the 2017 class face off in Luke Johnson and Taveion Hollingsworth. Dunbar wins by 5 points in the end.
