Week 2 Viewing Period Wrap Up
As the NCAA “live” viewing periods wrapped up this weekend, Prep Hoops was on the scene throughout the country covering and evaluating players of all shapes & sizes. Here we take a look at some of the local guys who stood out to us in Portland, Anaheim, and Oakland.
Peyton Brammer 2020 6’4 Wing Hockinson HS/Sixers Iron Athletics 16U
The explosive wings athleticism was on full display in the Phenom Hoops TOC event in Greensboro, North Carolina. Brammer impressed college coaches by averaging 25 points a game including several highlight reel dunks.
Hunter Ecklund 2020 6’0 Guard Lacenter HS/Sixers Iron Athletics 16U
The man on the delivering end of many of the passes that Brammer turned in to impressive finishes at the rim was the point guard from Lacenter HS in southwest Washington. Ecklund is a true floor general who uses his quickness and hoop IQ to get to spaces to create scoring opportunities for teammates or himself. Ecklund averaged 17 points a game in leading his team to a 4-0 record in the showcase style event.
Zach Baugher 2019 6’7 Forward Santiam Christian HS/Team Jones
The 6’7 lefty shooter had it going on Friday night in a run away victory. He was especially effective in the pick & pop game & as a trailer in transition. His ability to shoot it from deep opened up driving lanes for teammates as well. Baugher’s college interest is starting to pick up as he is hearing from college programs from a variety of levels.
Jack Rose 2019 6’2 Wing Tualatin HS/Team Jones
The athletic wing is starting to get on the radar of local small college coaches after displaying tremendous athletic ability on both ends of the floor. A high energy player that has the ability to defend multiple spots on the perimeter and was effective attacking the rim throughout the weekend.
Ben Gregg 2021 6’7 Forward Columbia Christian HS/Rose City Rebels 15U
The highly skilled Gregg, who dominated the 2A state tournament in March, got better and better as the weekend went on, ultimately leading his team to a 2nd place finish in a highly competitive 15U division. Gregg displayed the ability to shoot the ball to 23 feet to go along with tremendous vision and passion. It’s easy to see why he’s already on the radar of practically every D1 program on the west coast.
Trace Salton 2021 6’3 Wing Lake Oswego HS/Rose City Rebels 15U
The athletic Salton flashed signs of emerging as a Top 10 player in his class. His motor was on display throughout the weekend and regularly made the hustle plays that have a huge impact on the game. As his skill level continues to improve, watch for his recruitment to start to pick up.
Nathan Rawlings-Kibonge 2021 6’7 Post Jefferson HS/Nike Team Northwest 15U
The 6’7 big man, showed a true back to the basket game, as well as the ability to defend the rim and rebound the basket while helping his team to a 3-1 record in the Pumps Spring Hoopfest in Anaheim.
Ethan McEachern 2020 6’1 Guard Lakeridge HS/Nike Team Northwest 16U
The heady guard continues to improve and showed the ability to knock down perimeter shots while also running the team. Lead his group to the semifinals in Anaheim where they eventually lost to future NBA Hall of Famer Paul Pierce’s EYBL team.
Aidan Clark 2020 6’7 Post South Eugene HS/Nike Team Northwest 16U
Had a good weekend in Anaheim, establishing a post presence on both ends on his way to averaging 13 points, 8 rebounds, & 3 blocks for the tourney. Has started to pick up some interest from a variety of schools including Montana State of the Big Sky Conference.
Justin Bieker 2019 6’5 Wing Jesuit HS/Nike Team Northwest 17U
Showed off his knack for scoring the ball in a variety of ways down in Anaheim, flashing long range jumpers, a mid range game, and the ability to finish at the rim in traffic. Also showed improvement in guarding elite level wings on the perimeter.
Dominique McGarvey 2019 6’8 Post Sheldon HS/Team Flight
The junior big man was dominant down in Anaheim before breaking a finger that will cause him to miss 1-2 months. Playing in the top division, he averaged 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocks a game and displayed a much more consistent motor than at times in the past. McGarvey is hearing from a variety of different west coast schools.
Isiah Sampson 2019 6’5 Forward Camas HS/Team Fly
The undersized big man from across the river showed off a consistent motor and was a huge part of his teams 4-0 record in the West Coast Elite event in Northern California. He was dominant on the glass and showed the ability to score in a variety of different ways.
Zak Hankins 2018 6’4 Wing Sheldon HS/Dribble Drive
Averaged a double double in the Oregon Open Run tournament, garnering interest from several local D3 and NAIA programs still working to finish their recruiting classes. Flashed a competitive streak and ability to shoot the ball to deep.
Cole McAninch 2019 6’4 Wing South Eugene HS/Dribble Drive
Talented offensive player who showed the ability to shoot to range and score around the basket in Portland. Garnering some early interest from northwest NAIA and D2 programs.
