Pangos Spring Live: First Five Sophomores
Cerritos, Ca. — There was no Dinos Trigonis in sight as his attention, and being, were firmly planted in Indianapolis for his Terrific 24 event, but the Pangos Spring Live event went off without a hitch at Cerritos College.
Below is the first set of top sophomore performers from the weekend:
Amound Anderson, Team Why Not 16s
The Leuzinger High standout got where he wanted when he wanted. Anderson, a 6-foot-3 left handed combo guard, scored it with efficiency from all three levels of the floor, led fast break opportunities and made high IQ decisions with the pass. Anderson’s defense was impressive, as well, as he guarded, at times, positions 1-4 with success.
Team Why Not 16s guard Amound Anderson was one of the top sophomore performers from the Pangos Spring Live event.Austin Cook, Coastal Elite 16s and 17s
You never knew which court Cook was going to be on as he appeared in multiple games with both the 16 and 17 age groups of Coastal Elite’s club teams. When we saw the 6-foot-4 Damien High shooting guard, he was hitting 3-pointers with regularity and showed more comfort with his one-dribble pull-up.
Spencer Hubbard, Team Why Not 16s
A lot of what Hubbard does goes unnoticed at the club level because he’s not pulling off an explosive dunk or trying to make a flashy play. The Harvard-Westlake point guard had his head on a swivel in transition, working the middle of the floor, drawing defenders and finding open teammates from 3-point range or dropping passes to cutters for easy buckets.
Daishen Nix, Simply Fundamental
Nix has an overpowering combination of size and strength at the point guard position while also remaining true to how a point guard is supposed to operate. He’s both explosive and patient which lend to his court vision and ability to get into the paint and put pressure on the rim. Nix was one of the better pure passers on the weekend.
Atin Wright, Team Why Not 16s
Wright is an explosive scorer who puts points on the board in a hurry. The 5-foot-11 Lakewood High standout uses a deep bag of dribble moves, hesitations and changes of speeds to get into the paint where he can finish with a floater or strong take to the cup. Wright is a craft pull-up shooter off the bounce, as well, from both 3-point and mid-range levels.
