Spring Jam Fest Superlatives
MANHEIM, PA — This year’s Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest was a great way to close out the spring live period. Prep Hoops was in the gym for all three days of action, and now it’s time to recap what we saw. Here we look at ten superlatives from the weekend.
BEST BREAKOUT PERFORMER | ’19 PG KYLE ROSE | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Kyle Rose continues his breakout this spring after a doing the same thing this high school season at Rock Creek Christian. At close to 6-foot-5, the skilled southpaw is a versatile defender who can also score it from a variety of areas on the floor. Rose has picked up three offers since the weekend, and we expect his recruitment to continue its upward trend.
BEST CEILING | ’21 G DEVON SAVAGE | TEAM TAKEOVER
It’s been fun to see the development of Devon Savage over the past 12+ months. The 6-foot-5 wing guard, who demonstrated the ability to score it from all three levels, also has very good defensive potential.
BEST DEFENDER | ’20 G ISHMAEL LEGGETT | TEAM TAKEOVER
We lost track of the number of charges that Ishmael Leggett took over the weekend. He was certainly among the leaders in that department.
BEST FINISHER | ’19 G HERU BLIGEN | 6TH MAN WARRIORS
Heru Bligen is always seeking contact on his aggressive drives to the rim. The energetic 6-foot-2 point guard, who is always applying pressure on opposing defenses, is tough as nails.
BEST PASSER | ’19 G CAMERON BROWN | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Cameron Brown could have won the award for a number of categories on this list, but we think he deserves some praise for his passing skills. The 6-foot-5 wing, who showcased improved ball handling abilities, exhibits great vision and unselfishness. Brown is always looking to set up his teammates when the help arrives.
BEST POINT GUARD | ’20 CHUCK HARRIS | TEAM TAKEOVER
As the MVP of the 17U division, it’s only right that Chuck Harris wins this superlative after leading his team to the championship. Gonzaga’s starting lead guard was a reliable maestro for the best team in the tournament.
BEST REBOUNDER | ’19 CHARLIE WEBER | 6TH MAN WARRIORS
Charlie Weber is a walking double double. The 6-foot-8 forward, who went for 22 and 14 in front of Boston College, should continue to see his recruitment expand.
BEST SHOOTER | ’19 KAMDYN CURFMAN | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Kamdyn Curfman is a knock down shooter with deep range, and he can hit both off the dribble and from the catch. He lit Team Takeover up with three triples in the first half of their matchup in the semifinals.
BEST WING | ’19 GOB GABRIEL | DC BLUE DEVILS NH
At about 6-foot-7, Gob Gabriel is a flat out mismatch problem with his skill set and arsenal of hesitation moves. He will need to continue to work on his shot and add strength in order to reach his full potential, but no one could guard him one on one last weekend.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | ’21 TREVOR KEELS | TEAM TAKEOVER
Trevor Keels was the best underclassmen we saw this weekend, and played a pivotal role in helping his squad capture their respective championship. The strong and versatile 6-foot-4 guard played a mature brand of basketball.
