UAA: National Evaluations
On Sunday PrepHoops checked out the Under Armour Association in Indianapolis during the second live period. Here are evaluations of the national prospects that caught our eye!
PG RJ Hampton (Mudiay Elite)
This was my first time seeing this elite 2020 point guard play and he was spectacular! The 6’5” Texas native is a game changer in every single way possible. He is an ultra-smooth playmaker that showed amazing vision and feel passing the basketball. Hampton can also really score it in a variety of ways. Got to the hoop whenever he wanted off the bounce and his silky smooth jumper was on point! Drilled an array of turnaround jumpers and threes. Got to the line at a high rate where he made all his free throws. Elite top 3 player nationally. He had 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 dimes in a win.
PF Tyreek Smith (Mudiay Elite)
This 6’8” power forward is a wiry four man with springy legs. He is super quick to the offensive glass. High points rebounds in traffic. Most of his offense is on put backs and dunks off passes created by his teammates. He bricked a mid-range jumper and converted a sweet up and under. Major shot blocking presence on the defensive end. He had 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks. High-major prospect.
PG Jamal Mashburn (Team Breakdown)
The son of a former NBA player with the same name more than held his own against Hampton. This 6’2” lead guard from Florida is a strong and compact guard that can really fill it up scoring the rock. He was most effective connecting from the mid-range on pull up jumpers where he was on point throughout the first half. Hit a couple threes, but was 2-8 from that spot on the floor. Volume scoring 2020 point guard had 20 points on 8-19 from the field. High-major.
PF Isaiah Turner (Team Breakdown)
This 6’8” forward had an impressive game coming off the bench for Team Breakdown. The 2019 long and lanky prospect has good size and a lot of upside. Most of his damage comes making plays as a finisher in the open floor. Not much of a shooter at this stage. He had 20 points and 6 rebounds. Mid-major player.
PG Nico Mannion (West Coast Elite)
Mannion is another 2020 standout at 6’3”. The Arizona native is an electric passer! Slick ball handler that got anywhere he wanted against PWP. Elite feel for the game and explosive ball handler. Plays with a lot of swagger. Showed clean mechanics on a jumper from deep. Mannion had 9 points and 6 dimes in the game. Elite high-major.
SG Josh Green (West Coast Elite)
We caught the second half of Green’s game against Oklahoma PWP. From what we were told he put on a show in the first half and the stats backed that up as he scored 20 points. Green is a big 6’6” wing that has plus athleticism to go along with a strong body. Great as a finisher in transition and playing in the open floor. High-major prospect.
SF Trey Anderson (West Coast Elite)
Anderson is another jumbo wing for West Coast Elite at 6’7”. This Mater Dei standout knows how to use his size to overpower other wings attacking downhill. Gets to the foul line at a nice clip. Plus three point shooter with a nice looking shot. He had 19 points on 5-8 shooting. High-major prospect.
PF Kalib Boone (Oklahoma PWP)
Boone intrigued us with his 6’9” long and rangy frame. The Memorial (OK) native runs the floor well and consistently finishes well around the cup. Boone is efficient with his touches hitting short jumpers and having a soft touch from 10 feet and in. Active offensive rebounder with projectability on the defensive end. The mobile four man had 20 points and 8 boards. High-major prospect.
PG Bryce Thompson (Oklahoma PWP)
It was just an ok game for this coveted 2020 recruit. The Booker T Washington (OK) guard did a solid job of passing it with crisp passes. As a scorer his most impressive move was a spin in the lane that he finished with a pull up jumper. Thompson had 9 points and 5 dimes.
SF Bryan Antoine (Team Rio)
Antoine started off slow against Team Thad, but the 6’5” small forward was an absolute monster from that point on! The New Jersey wing proved why he is a consensus top 15 player nationally. He is a plus shooter connecting on 3-7 from deep including a couple of really tough looks. Gets elevation off the floor with a clean release. Burst with the ball in the open floor was impressive especially at his size. Not too many 2020 prospects have that type of physical profile and speed in the open floor. He scored at the rim well in the transition game. Antoine finished with 22 points on 7-15 shooting. Elite high-major top 10 national type player in 2020.
SG Scottie Lewis (Team Rio)
Lewis is a top 15 prospect nationally by many. The 6’5” shooting guard has an athletic build with big time hops. More prospect than player at this stage. He has a lot of the physical tools that project well long term. Like his perimeter jump shot as he gets a lot of elevation on it. Hit 2-3 from beyond the arc. Solid rebounder from his guard position. Athleticism was shown off on a huge left handed block. He had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Still would like to see him be more aggressive. High-major priority on the east coast.
PF Aidan Igiehon (Team Rio)
This 6’10” power forward is a physical and athletic four man. He is absolutely jacked with strength in his upper body. Struggled offensively with his ability to score in the paint in the game we saw. Solid area rebounder that can also get outside of his area with his quickness. Only played 15 minutes because of foul trouble. He had 2 points and 4 boards. Despite bad game he is a high-major player no doubt.
PG Jalen Gaffney (Team Rio)
Gaffney stands at 6’3” at the lead guard position. He plays with a high motor and can score in a variety of ways. The lengthy guard gets where ever he wants on the floor and converted on an array of short jumpers and floaters. Gaffney went for 22 points and 5 boards.
G Dekeyvan Tandy (Team Thad)
This 6’2” Kentucky native can really get buckets in a hurry! He did just that against Team Rio. The strong and stocky combo guard struggled shooting it from three, but attacked the paint over and over again for conversions. He is a powerful guard that when he is going downhill is really tough to stop! Almost plays bully ball from the guard spot over powering weaker defenders. He has some bounce as well shown on a monster dunk early in the game. Tandy had 27 points on 10-21 shooting. High-major.
SF Jaykwon Walton (Team Thad)
Walton is an Alabama native that is a rangy 6’6” wing. He is super athletic and needs to continue to add strength. Drilled a couple of threes, but is best as a slasher getting to the rim and had his runner game working against Team Rio. Early in the game he had a couple monster dunks. Walton finished with 19 points on 8-17 shooting. Should be a SEC priority.
G Damion Baugh (Team Thad)
The Tennessee Prep standout quietly had a very productive game. He is good scoring on straight line drives as well as getting to the free throw line. Also rebounded well for his position. Baugh had 12 points and 7 boards. Mid-major plus.
PF Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (KC Run GMC)
Robinson-Earl is a prospect from Bishop Miege High School in Kansas that stands at 6’9”. We really liked what we saw out of him last July and his game has improved even more especially physically. He is much stronger especially in his upper body and his athleticism has gone through the roof. Robinson-Earl made some plays above the rim that were extremely impressive! He can score with his back to the basket with quick and athletic post moves as well as drill mid-range jumpers for days! The elite 2019 post has a big time second jump getting on the glass for put backs. Another area that impressed was his passing. Made several great outlet finds and passed it well out of the post too. Shot blocking presence with his springy legs. JRE had 20 points on 10-20 shooting. Grabbed 14 boards and had 3 assists. High-major top 15 player nationally.
SG Zach Harvey (KC Run GMC)
Harvey is a coveted high-major recruit with his rangy body and springy legs. He does a lot of his damage in the open floor with his speed and ability to finish at the cup. Did not shoot it from three well at all going 0-4. Not his best game finishing with 8 points and 4 boards.
PG Tre’Von Quartlebaum (KC Run GMC)
This 6’2” point guard is crafty with the basketball. Capable scorer that hit 1-4 from three. Flashed explosion. He had 8 points. Mid-major player.
SG Myles Pierre (Team Charlotte)
Pierre put on a show off the bench for Team Charlotte. He isn’t the most explosive wing, but he plays with a ton of toughness and with strength. The power guard is tough scoring in the paint along with getting to the charity stripe. He had 23 points. Mid-major player.
SG Anthony Edwards (Atlanta Xpress)
Hello Mr. Edwards! The 6’5” shooting guard from the south put his team on his back and carried them to a win over the Illinois Wolves! This 2020 two guard was on fire from deep hitting 6-10 from behind the arc including a few heat checks in the second half. He is a strong and explosive wing that can attack the basket with authority. Finished through contact well and got to the line where he made 9-10. Plays with a high motor and intensity level. Just completely took over the game in the second half leading his team to an OT win by scoring 43 points on 14-24 shooting and grabbing 5 boards. Five star caliber player.
SG Chase Hunter (Atlanta Xpress)
Hunter played Robin to Edwards’ Batman in this game. He is a shooting guard that has an excellent mid-range game. He drilled a ton of runners, floaters, and 15 foot shots on his way to 16 points. Mid-major plus.
SG Paxson Wojcik (Illinois Wolves)
Wojcik is the lone Illinois Wolves player from outside of the state of Illinois. This La Lumiere (IN) 2019 is a crafty wing that plays with a lot of flair. Connected on several mid-range jumpers, but did most of his damage at the free throw line where he went 10-13. His three point shot especially off the catch is usually one of his biggest strengths. Didn’t shoot it well from deep. It seemed like there was something off mechanically on his shot. He had 17 points. Mid-major plus prospect.
PF Kamrohn Roundtree (Philly Pride 16U)
Roundtree is an impressive 6’5” 2020 combo forward that is super bouncy and quick to the glass. He plays really hard at all times and was a monster on the glass. So efficient inside with his power and strength. Went 7-8 from the field for 15 points in 15 minutes.
SG Jordan Longino (Philly Pride 16U)
Longino is a 2021 wing that is a solid shooter especially from mid-range. Was a bit streaky from three going 2-8 from deep. Rebounded very well from his guard position at 6’4”. Finished with 10 points.
SF Dahmir Fowlkes (Philly Pride 16U)
Fowlkes is a super athletic small forward that plays with a lot of passion for the game. Attacks the cup with strength. Hit a mid-range jumper, but there is definitely a hitch in his shot. Went for 11 points.
SG Jordan Toles (Team Thrill 16U)
Toles is a football prospect on the gridiron as a safety, but he flashed with his hoops ability too. Big time athlete that shined playing above the rim. Also a solid passer from the two guard position. He had 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 dimes. On the hoops side he is probably a mid-major kid.
