Adidas Gauntlet ATL Standouts (Part 3)
It was the second live period of the spring, and after having their regional qualifier the first weekend, Adidas brought the entire Gauntlet to Atlanta this past weekend. There were games all over the Atlanta area, and as always there were hundreds of division one college coaches in attendance. We were able to watch teams from all over the country, and there were quite a few standouts throughout the event. Check it out, and let us know who we missed!
Loginn Norton | 6’1” CG | Team Richmond Garner Road 17U
Norton is instant offensive for TRGR whether he starts or comes off the bench. The 6’1” combo guard can shoot it from deep, get in the lane and score from the midrange or get to the free throw line and knock them down consistently. He can play on or off the basketball, and with his ability to make shots from all over the floor he can really fill it up quickly. In their win over the Birmingham Panthers, he finished with 14 points, hitting four three-pointers on the game.
Ace Baldwin | 6’0” PG | Team BBC 17U
One of the best 2020 point guards in Adidas, Baldwin has had some rough games, but his ability to stay confident and bounce back has been impressive. He has been clutch for BBC when they need it late, and he’s a guy who can fill it up or make others around him better. He changes speeds so well, he has a great pull up from the midrange and from deep, and he can create for others after he gets it going. He’s going to continue to blow up, and playing up on 17U will make him better moving forward.
Myles Tate | 5’11” PG | Team Loaded NC 16U
Tate was extremely impressive this weekend, and the fact that he picked up offers from College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina shows that. He has a great feel for the game, as he sees everything one play ahead on both ends of the floor, and while he can score it at will he takes the time to make others better and keep everyone involved in the game. He can get to his spots off the bounce, he’s a high level shooter from deep and he has great instincts on both ends of the floor. He’s a gamer that plays his best against top competition and has an uncanny IQ for a lead guard his age.
Jarious Hamilton | 6’3” WG | Team Loaded VA 16U
All signs point toward Hamilton prepping next season, so he’s playing 16U with Team Loaded where he’s a go-to guy and is showing his ability to score the basketball at a high clip. A stocky two guard with three level scoring ability, once he hits a couple of shots he can really get it going. He can play with the ball in his hands in transition, he can knock down shots from deep off the ball and he’s strong enough to finish through contact in the paint. He’s an under the radar guy who could be a late bloomer if he continues to show that he can score the basketball.
Tyrese Jenkins | 6’6” F | Team Loaded VA 16U
Rumors are flying about Jenkins reclassifying, who was a state champion and state player of the year as a junior for Varina. The 6’6” forward does a little bit of everything for whatever team he is on, and his ability to score the basketball from 15 feet and in is impressive, but he can also stretch the floor when left open from deep. He rebounds at a high level, can score off a couple of dribbles or off the catch and he’s a very productive guy in whatever role he needs to be in.
AJ Williams | 6’1” G | Team Loaded VA 15U
One of the better freshman shooters we have seen in this class, Williams continues to light it up this summer after helping Varina to a state championship as a freshman. In their win over the Joe Johnson Hawks, the combo guard filled it up with 18 points, including four three-pointers, and since he can already shoot he’s likely going to improve the rest of his game shortly moving forward. Still, he has great feel and vision, and he’s a consistent threat to hurt you from behind the arc.
Roosevelt Wheeler | 6’10” C | Team Loaded VA 15U
Playing alongside 6’11” Efton Reid, Wheeler has shined early as a defensive presence in the paint and a guy who can catch and finish at the basket, but with Wheeler under the weather on Saturday he took the opportunity to shine against the Hawks. The 6’10” Wheeler has good hands and feet, showed the ability to score on the jump hook in the paint and hit the midrange, and used his length as a shot blocker and killed on the glass on both ends. He finished with 14 points and likely had a double-double.
Madison Peaster | 6’1” PG | Joe Johnson Hawks 15U
While Loaded was able to pull out a 62-57 win over the Hawks, Peaster refused to back down and he let the Loaded guards know that he could go toe-to-toe with them throughout the game. He came out on fire, scoring 9 points in the first 10 minutes of the game, and when the Hawks needed a bucket he was the guy they went to. He was a three level scorer with good size that can create his own shot, and he filled it up in bunches in both halves. He finished with an impressive game high of 19 points.
