Checking Back In With Exum Elite’s Jace Whiting On Another Adidas Gauntlet Weekend
It was another weekend on the Adidas Gauntlet Series for 2020 guard Jace Whiting as his team Exum Elite and himself made the long trek over to Atlanta, Georgia for their most recent set of games.
For Whiting, his Dad and head coach Trent Whiting, that meant some serious travel coming from Burley, Idaho. Truly one of the tough and under reported parts of live period is perhaps the travel and extent the prospects endure on the school side of everything, something Whiting experienced like so many others these past two weekends.
But, to have the opportunity to lace them up against some of the nation’s top talent in the Gauntlet Series is enough motivation for a prospect like Whiting. An exciting guard who can flourish in an uptempo setting, Whiting and Prep Hoops Idaho connected once again to catch up on his second consecutive live period weekend in the #GauntletSeries.
In terms of how his team came together over the past two weekends of competition, Whiting told us, “from last weekend to this weekend we gained a lot more chemistry, we’re now adjusted to the new guys on our team. We improved a lot defensively with our communication.”
In Atlanta, Whiting’s Exum Elite 16s squad went 2-2 on the weekend. The team which is based out of Bountiful, Utah, won it’s first matchup on Friday night against the Iowa Barnstormers 64-56 as they looked to set the tone for the weekend.
In their next contest, the team suffered a thrilling and narrow defeat 60-57 at the hands of Thunderstruck. Their second game on Saturday which took place in the evening set saw them return to their winning ways as they were able to cruise to a 72-55 win over Team Rose. On Sunday, and in their 4th game in three days the team slipped to Team YGC 36 81-67.
Overall, Whiting averaged 14.0 points per game this past weekend and his team now sits 5-3 in the Gold division, enough to qualify as one of the top 24 teams and earn them a spot in the Adidas Gauntlet finals later in July. Whiting is looking ahead to the summer now after a positive Spring session with his team.
“I’ll prepare for July by working on getting stronger and faster. As a team we’re going to be working on being able to execute a lot better and the way we need to,” Whiting said.
