Adidas Gauntlet Atlanta: My Top 5
The 2018 Adidas Gauntlet made it’s way to Atlanta this past weekend and was held at Lakepoint Sports Academy. Obviously there were big time names coming into this one , big time prospects such as Kyree Walker, Matthew Hurt, Ashton Hagans, Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, Charles Bassey, Will Baker, Greg Brown, and more. Down below I give you my top 5 guys who stood out this weekend and some are very familiar names.
2019 point guard Ashton Hagans – Game Elite Gold (GA)
Top 10 prospect Ashton Hagans had a fabulous weekend this past weekend in his city. The Kentucky commit put most of his skills on display in front of dozens of college coaches. He’s able to penetrate with ease and is a lock down defender who loves to play defense. What stood out the most was he vision and passing skills. He was able to get all of his teammates going on offense and creating plays and scoring opportunities. Currently sitting at the #3 best point guard according to ESPN, you can certainly argue that Ashton could be considered the #1 point guard in the class of 2019. He’s an explosive guard that brings incredible energy to his team.
2020 guard Jalen Green – EBO (CA)
Everyone in Atlanta was eager to finally check out the #1 player in the class of 2020 in Jalen Green. Known for his flashy highlights and crazy dunks , Mr. Green had spectators and college coaches filling the main courts seats for all his games. Jalen began his weekend with a 20 point outing Friday night against Atlanta’s own Atlanta Celtics. What we noticed was Jalen is able to attack and make his way inside the paint with ease. His super athleticism makes it look effortless to draw contact and get to the free throw line. His long legs and arms helped him stride and finish in transition. Green gave us a look as well at his outside game. He’s not a great shooter , but he’s streaky, and did connect on a few of his jumpers this weekend.
2019 point guard Tyrell Terry – D1 Minnesota (MN)
Tyrell Terry was one of those prospects that did not have much buzz coming to this past weekend Atlanta session. Terry is a very fluid point guard and playing with a good D1 Minnesota squad , who finished the weekend 4-1. He was able to make his jump shots whether they were mid ranges or from beyond the arc. Tyrell sees the floor very well and does not force anything offensively. He’s a coachable point guard and is patient and does not rush his tempo no matter what defense the opponent is in. Tyrell has already had discussions with Midwest programs such as Ohio State, Xavier, Butler, Indiana, and hometown school Minnesota.
2019 wing Jaylin Williams – Game Elite Gold (GA)
Needless to say Jaylin Williams without question had arguably the best all around performance this past weekend in Atlanta. The 6’7 wing displayed all of his skills on the court. He was able to score on all levels , scoring inside and out, and in transition. Jaylin is an athletic and bouncy wing who’s not afraid of contact or physical play inside. The rising senior showed that he has an outside jumper and is an efficient player when’s he on the floor. Jaylin has been collecting offers all spring and looks to continue to prove that he’s one of top players in the class of 2019.
2019 forward Isaiah Mobley – Compton Magic (CA)
Isaiah Mobley is a name we should be familiar with. Not really known on the east coast but Isaiah and his brother Evan , a class of 2020 forward, are very well known on the west coast. Isaiah bought his “A” game to the peach state this past weekend, leading his Compton Magic squad to a 5-0 record. Isaiah is an extremely skilled forward who can handle the ball decently well and has “a nack” for scoring. He was not afraid of contact at all when driving to the basket and showed his perimeter game as well when his defenders played off him. In my opinion Isaiah Mobley will certainly be one of the best forwards in the game in the near future.
