Derrick’s Dime’s – Nike EYBL & Midwest Takeover Friday Standouts
Indianapolis, IN – Friday night kicked off the second live period in April and the Prep Hoops staff is in Indianapolis for the Nike EYBL session II and Nike Midwest Takeout 16U Events among other live event tournaments in the area this weekend. I started off catching some Nike 16U action and finished the night watching some 17U at the EYBL. Here I look at some of the Standout performances from games I scouted on Friday in: Derrick’s Dime’s – Nike EYBL Friday Standouts
G- 2020 6’4” Caleb Love (Brad Beal Elite) MO
The 6’4” Combo guard out of CBC in St. Louis, Mo started out a little slow on Friday and picked up a couple early fouls against the Mac Irvin Fire. However, Love turned it up in the second half. Love was able to penetrate the lane and get some baskets at the rim early in the 2nd half to get a rhythm going, as well as get to the line. Love can score from all three levels and is a highly skilled player that has a smooth game, fluid out in transition can handle it and score off the bounce and has continued to improve he perimeter shooting and can make jumpers both off the catch or bounce. He showed athleticism on a couple big time dunks out on the break for Brad Beal to help them go on a run and get a win over a tough Mac Irvin Fire team. Love finished with a team high 21 points in the win. The High-Major prospect currently holds offers from Iowa, Mizzou, K-State, SLU & Creighton among others
PG – 2020 5’10” Phillip Russell (Brad Beal Elite) MO
The floor general out of Vashon (MO) came off the bench for Brad Beal Elite and helped against the press that caused them problems early in the game. A pass first type of guard who can really make plays for others and run the offense showed he can also be a threat to score. Russell hit a couple big three’s for BBE and was able to use a quick burst off the dribble to get past his defender and finish over help defense on some really tough buckets. A tough gritty guard who plays smart and made the right plays on both ends down the stretch Friday for BBE 16U team.
F –2020 6’5′‘ Isaiah Burrell (Mac Irvin Fire) IL
Another Burrell brother for the Fire and another player that just produces and in a variety of ways. The 2020 F out of Kenwood, was attacking on offense driving to the lane as well as getting baskets off offense rebounds, but also flashed a little mid-range game hitting some baseline jumpers for the Fire. Plays with competitive edge that leads him to make plays that help his team, Burrell was a defense presence getting steals on the press and battling down low for the Fire & controlling the glass cleaning up rebounds. He finished the game with 17 points.
F – 2019 6’8″ Malik Hall (MoKan Elite) KS
The one-time Metea Valley HS (Aurora, IL) player Malik Hall now out of Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas was very impressive in a tough overtime win over Seattle Rotary. Hall is a match up nightmare for opponents in that he can play multiple positions is 6’8” can handle the ball and score from all three levels. He isn’t overly athletic and isn’t going to jump out the gym but has improved in that area. Hall is a smooth wing-forward that knows how to play and has a high basketball IQ and skillset. Hall scored from all three levels for MoKan Elite helping lead the charge on the comeback win. Hall finished with 18 points and 4 rebounds. The high major recruit holds 23 D-1offers from the likes of Kansas, Villanova, Oklahoma, Purdue, Mizzou ,Illinois, Iowa and Iowa State.
G- 6’4” 2019 Isiaih Mosley (MoKan Elite) MO
Rock Bridge (Mo) G- Isiaih Mosley was clutch down the stretch for MoKan hitting a smooth runner down the lane to send the game into OT. Mosley is a 6’6” guard that knows how to pick his spots and was very efficient in the win over Seattle Rotary. Makes plays on both ends and brought defensive energy as well as rebounds from the guard spot for MoKan. A capable shot maker from deep, most of Mosley’s production came from 15 in however with a variety of runners and baskets at the lane to finish with 14 points and 8 rebounds & 4 assists. Mosley isn’t a flashy player, but he gets the job done and makes plays in a hardnosed gritty fashion. He holds offers from Missouri, Bradley, Tulsa and Nebraska but look for that list to grow as he gets seen out on the EYBL circuit.
SF –6’9” 2019 Jaden McDaniels (Seattle Rotary) WA
The 6’9” SF is one of the top wings out on the west coast and posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the tough OT loss to Mokan. McDaniels is a lanky 6’9” in the body mode of a Brandon Ingram, Kevin Durant type. He uses his length on both ends. On offense he can shoot over or post up smaller defenders or drive past slower post players for finished at the rim. A bouncy SF he can get up and finish. On defense he can block shots and rebound well from the wing position. McDaniels runs the floor well and can really produce out on the break. Offers and interest from the likes of Washington, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and SDSU.
G-6’2” 2020 Dante Maddox Jr. (Mac Irvin Fire)
Maddox Jr. Is a shooting guard with major athletic ability and was a force early out on the press for the Fire. A quick strong athletic who scored around the rim off the bounce Maddox Jr. also was able to knock down some shots from deep as well. Liked what I saw with him being able to score in different ways as well as affect the game on defense. Playing on the E16 EYBL will help Maddox Jr., from the standpoint of getting to play and compete against high level players.
