Adidas Gauntlet: 2019 Posts
The first live period is over and now comes the notes. We are searching through our book and seeing who stood out and made a name for themselves. Here is our evaluations from Adidas Gauntlet Gold this past weekend. These are our notes from the best post players from what we saw.
Logan Carter – 6’10 / C / 2019 / Evansville Mater Dei (IN) / EG10 2019
Logan is a big, bruising post player who will need some more touches to show what he can do. Was a bit limited with those but when he did, he was really effective. Too big for defenders to mess with him and he finishes through everything. Saw the motor a bit this weekend but needs to trim up the frame to really take advantage of that motor. Good finisher with both hands and doesn’t have issues as a free throw shooter. Could be a really efficient scorer at any level.
Oscar Tshiebwe – 6’10 / C / 2019 / Kennedy Catholic (PA) / ITPS Wildcats 2019
Oscar is a big, super long freak athlete with tons of upside. Among the most impressive players you will see with size/length/athleticism. Great rim protector with impeccable timing and great hands. Showed the ability to block shots by grabbing the ball straight out of the air. Pretty mobile in the post on offense and tries to kill the rim on every finish. Can play faced up or with his back to the basket and has a ton of strength. High-level talent.
Nate Talbot – 6’7 / C / 2019 / Orion Lake (MI) / Michigan Mustangs 2019
Nate is a big, thick forward with a big lower half and some room to develop. Really mobile and can stretch the floor a bit. He’s solid as a post scorer who can carve out space and score although he could become a ton better after he learns to use his body more. Solid rebounder and that mobile helps him a bit there. Good big who could become quite a bit better by the end of the year.
Coleton Landis – 6’7 / PF / 2019 / Pickerington Central (OH) / OBC 2019
Coleton is a big, undersized post player who won’t stretch the floor much but can give you some production in the paint. Scores it well with his back to the basket. Rebounds okay but will need to be able to get outside of his area a bit better. Frame is solid and has plenty of strength, could use a little more height but essentially ready to go. If he can become a little more active and mobile, could see him becoming a level better.
Aristide Boya – 7’0 / C / 2019 / Broadfording Christian (FL) / Indiana Elite 2019
The 7’0 post player who is committed to Bradley looked really good this weekend. He’s matured physically in the last year adding the strength to become overpowering. He’s become a little more skilled in the post as he’s more adept going to either hand to get a shot off. Defensively, he’s a difference maker as he’s mobile and the footwork and length are there to allow him to rotate and be a rim protector.
Jalen Johnson – 6’8 / PF / 2019 / Indianapolis Manual (IN) / Team Rose 2019
Johnson is a big forward whose grown and matured physically in the last year. He’s built extremely well and has tons of strength. He’s really improved as a post scorer and does most of it now off of physicality. Loves to attack the rim and draw contact there. Can be a bit foul prone but better with physical play. Not a guy that can shoot from three and might need to add that at some point but as a true power forward type, he’s really rounded out his game.
