Pitt JamFest 17U Standouts (Part 3)
It was the first day of the live period, and Hoop Group’s Pitt JamFest in Pittsburgh, PA is back in full effect. One of the biggest live tournaments on the east coast, this year was yet again stacked with high level competition. With over 500 teams in attendance from all over the country and Canada, there was plenty of talent to choose from, so we won’t be able to get to all over them, but stay tuned as we break down some of the best performances we saw over the weekend.
Joe Bamisile | 6’4” G | Florida Eagles
Bamisile ended the Pitt JamFest with a bang! He scored 37 points in the final day, and the 2020 guard was playing up in 17U with an extremely talented Florida Eagles squad. Bamisile has come quite a ways, as he’s sprouted to 6’4”, allowing him to play on the wing along as with the ball in his hands, and he’s a three level scorer with good length and the ability to finish above the rim. He’s ready to breakout on the national scene when given his opportunity with Montverde.
Josiah Tynes | 6’4” PG | Northern Kings
On the first day I saw Tynes play for a talented Northern Kings team and was impressed with his next level potential as a lead guard. He’s lean but very long, and he plays much stronger than he looks when he’s attacking the basket. He finishes well in traffic, changes pace and can play in either the half court or in transition. Defensively he’s able to use his length and quickness to force deflections and hound ball handlers.
Jahbril Price-Noel | 6’7” WG | Northern Kings
Arguably the best available player at Pitt JamFest, Price-Noel is seeing interest from schools all over the division one spectrum, and it’s clear why. He has great size, can stroke it from deep, play inside-out and he can guard multiple positions. There aren’t many players with his caliber that are still playing AAU ball, but there’s no doubt someone is going to get in and scoop him up here soon.
Shaun Wahlstrom | 6’8” PF | Alvin Gentry Elite
Wahlstrom impressed with his size, athleticism and skill set, but it was his high motor that made him really productive. He ran the floor extremely well, rebounded the basketball on both ends and showed that he can guard multiple positions. Offensively, his skill set allowed him to be a walking mismatch at 6’8”, as he could take bigs out and score in the paint at will.
Kendal McHugh | 6’1” PG | Higher Level Premier
An old school floor general, McHugh showed the ability to lead his team and make plays for both himself and others with the ball in his hands. He plays with great pace, he’s a crafty handler and finisher around the basket, and he’s able to make shots from all over the floor off the bounce. His high IQ is apparent on both ends of the floor, especially defensively as he can play passing lanes and has great instincts.
Cam Timmons | 6’9” C | Higher Level Premier
Timmons’ reclassified this past season to the 2019 class and he had a good season at Highland School, and he’s building upon that so far in the spring. He still has to get his body right, but he’s mobile for his size, has good hands and feet and a soft touch in the paint with both hands. He contests shots without leaving his feet and he’s a guy who takes up a lot of space in the paint on both ends of the floor.
Caleb Dawkins | 6’2” WG | Team Loaded 757
Dawkins is set to have a very good spring, as he’s playing with a number of point guards that can create shots for others, and he can knock them down. At 6’2” he has a quick trigger off the catch, is consistent with range from deep and he’s able to attack closeouts and find his way to the free throw line. He’s also a sound on ball defender that can sit down and stay in front of pretty much anyone.
