Prospect Spotlight: Kaleb Maddox (2018)
Kaleb Maddox is a very versatile wing that stuffs the stat sheet.
The 6-foot-4 wing finished his senior season averaging 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Not only did he excel on the hardwood, but he also collected 15 tackles and scored 6 touchdowns for the Ecorse football team. His excellent play in both sports caught the eye of East Los Angeles College, and Maddox will play both for the Huskies.
“I chose East Los Angeles College because I wanted to be in a new environment and have good relationships with the coaching staff. Most importantly, it’s the best opportunity to be successful,” Maddox said. “I’m looking forward to the new life of living on my own and getting better as a person and as a player. Also, not just being a typical person on campus. I want to make an impact.”
On the hardwood, Maddox is very good at using his size to his advantage. As a wing, he is very good at getting to the basket and finishing through traffic, but his ability and willingness to post up smaller defenders is what sets him apart from other players. His jump shot is pretty consistent, however, he is still working to become a better overall outside shooter.
Defensively, Maddox is great at reading passes and coming away with steals. He’s a very tenacious and aggressive on ball defender that never gives up on plays. He has all the tools to be successful at the next level.
“The strengths of my game are getting to the basket and taking the mid range,” Maddox said. “I’m working on a better jump shot and going to my left side more. My handles have improved, but they can definitely be better.”
On the football field, he is really good at reading plays and finding the ball carrier. He is a sure tackler that never gives up on the play. Like basketball, he loves using his size to his advantage. Throughout the season, Maddox made multiple catches over opposing players. He is an incredible athlete that will thrive at the next level.
Maddox has set multiple goals for himself going forward, and he’s going to do everything he can to achieve them. To achieve his goals, he says he needs to remain focused and give his all in everything he does.
“My short term goal is preparing myself, getting bigger and stronger and accelerating my game,” Maddox said. “My long term goal is to remain focused, go hard every day and make the best out of my career.”
