Class of 2019: Climbers Part I
Two weeks of AAU are behind us. It is a perfect time to revisit the Class of 2019 rankings and adjust to account for the player’s growth and stagnation.
If you want to look at the complete rankings, smash here.
Climbers are either players previously undervalued or possibly players that developed their game in the last few months.
These players represent the six highest landing climbers (upward movement listed next to arrow on right of name).
#4 Tre Edwards ⇑2
Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (HHCA) captured the NACA National Championships thanks to Uros Plavsic, Jason Jitoboh, and Tre Edwards. Edwards is elegant at 6-foot-6 and fully capable of slashing in pockets. Recent improvements in agility and the continued development of an elite skill vaulted Edwards above his friend and year-round teammate, Wheza Panzo (#5). Tre Edwards has only written the opening line of his forseeably stirring monologue.
#7 Devan Cambridge ⇑5
Like Edwards, Cambridge benefits from exceptional size for position. Originally from Nashville Cambridge played this winter with Believe Prep Academy. The upstart prep school gave him more time to refine some wrinkles. Coming off the bench for a powerhouse EYBL team Brad Beal Elite will chaperon in those D1 offers he deserves.
#14 Dionte Ware ⇑2
Cleveland High School did not have the postseason they imagined. A disturbingly early playoff loss Cookeville ended the Blue Raider season before March. To further his recruiting profile Dionte Ware selected the Tennessee Tigers program.
#22 Alec Kegler ⇑3
Alec Kegler (Clarksville Northeast/EAB) checks in as the fourth wing climber in the Class of 2019. Kegler impressed at the Class AAA State Championships last month dominating Riverdale High. The quarterfinal win for Northeast included Kegler’s 26 points, which amounted to 28.3% of the game’s combined scoring! He earned his way the charity stripe for 12 attempts. In that particular game involving 7+ future college athletes (football/basketball/baseball), Kegler dominated.
#25 Luke Howard ⇑33
Face-up forward Luke Howard blew me out of the water in the Division II-A playoffs, hosted by C.P.A. Howard burst to the basket with ease. He locked in to ideal shooting spots and made about half of his outside shots. Running with Team Thad 17u, Howard is struggling to get large minutes. If he does, then his summer will be flush with D1 offers.
#30 Trey Davis III ⇑22
Trey Davis III is another guy who showcased well during the playoffs. Speedy and sturdy Davis III looks like a LM combo guard. His team played him more off the ball, but Davis III has the tools to lead a team. He emotionally invests and demands his teammates comply. The 6-foot-0 guard is playing AAU with BMaze Elite 17u.
